To begin installation of the Printer driver on your computer for the first time, insert the distribution CD into your CD-ROM drive. If Autorun is enabled on the system, the Add Printer Wizard will start automatically. (If Autorun is not enabled, browse the root directory of the CD, then run start.exe. )
When the list of supported printer models appears, select Have Disk. Point to the folder on your CD where the .INF file is located.
The installation program will search for an existing version of the printer driver. If a previous version exists, the Upgrade program will start. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the upgrade.
Using SNMP, the Printer Monitor allows you to automatically recognize the configuration of a network printer, and to monitor the status of the printer and your print jobs. To use the bi-directional (SNMP) reporting capabilities of the Printer Monitor, either TCP/IP or IPX/SPX must be installed.
When upgrading existing installations, the Printer Monitor settings will be reset to their defaults.
4. Technical notes
- To use the Digital Print Copy feature of the printer (i.e. send once for collated multi-copy output), enable Collate in the Document tab of the driver setup dialog. Many applications also provide a Collate option in their print dialogs. The Collate setting in the driver overrides the application setting, so in most cases the application setting is irrelevant. However, in Windows® 3.1 (16-bit) applications, as well as some 32-bit applications (Word 7.0, Excel 97) Collate must be turned off in the application, otherwise the application will generate multiple sets of pages (one for each copy of the document).
- WordPerfect 7 and 8 always generate multiple sets of pages for multi-copy documents. The driver sends these pages to the driver as a single print job regardless of the Collate setting in the driver. This disables the Digital Print Copy function and causes all copies to be stapled together if stapling is enabled. This is an application problem and there is no known workaround.
- IP is the preferred protocol for SNMP communication with the printer. If both IP and IPX protocols are installed on a system, the IP protocol will be used by default.
- To manually launch Printer Monitor, right-click on the printer in the Printers folder, then select Ricoh Tools/Printer Monitor.
- When using the driver's Booklet or N-up features with Adobe Acrobat, the automatic page resizing features must be turned off. In Acrobat 3.x, deselect Shrink to Fit. In Acrobat 4.0, deselect Fit to Page. In Acrobat 5.0, deselect Shrink oversized pages to paper size and Expand small pages to paper size.
- Stapling of mixed paper sizes is not supported by this printer. For example, no stapling will occur when Front Cover, Back Cover, or OHP Interleaving are enabled when printing on paper that differs from document paper size.
