This software update is for users that have upgraded from Windows 95, 98, 98SE or Windows NT to Windows 2000 Pro. This software updates the 6300c series HP scanner software (PrecisionScan Pro v.2.0) for use with Windows 2000 Pro upgrade only.
Manual Installation Instructions:
Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. You will now be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where the download will be placed on your hard disk. (Example: If you wanted to download to your C:\TEMP you would select that folder from the list of folders in the download "Save As" screen.)
Now open the C:\Temp folder (if that was your selected folder), and double-click on the file you downloaded. This file will decompress into a default folder c:\sj469w2k, or any folder of your choice. You will find the SETUP.EXE file in the c:\sj469w2k folder, or the folder that you chose. Double-click the SETUP.EXE file to activate the software installation.

KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS UPDATE:
If the scanner still is not found after installing the update and restarting Windows, unplug the scanner's USB and power cables. Wait twenty seconds and then plug them back in.
You may have to also remove the scanner from Device Manager if it is found as an "Unknown Device" by Windows.
Instructions on how to remove a HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device from Device Manager in Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
In Windows XP, Click Start, right-click My Computer, then Properties .
a. In Windows 2000, find the My Computer Icon on the Desktop, right click on My Computer, then Properties.
The System Properties box will appear.
Click the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Imaging Devices. A drop down menu will appear.
Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.
To download: Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. The recommended procedure should be to: 1) Uninstall current scanner software. 2) Install new scanner software. 3) If you have problems with the new software and/or scanner, then run this update.
Download Instructions:
Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. The file will decompress into a default folder c:\sj590, or any folder of your choice. Go to c:\sj590 (or the folder you chose). Double-click on the file you downloaded. Click "Unzip" on the window that appears, then "OK" twice. The software upgrade will install automatically.

When launched from the Start menu, the Copy Utility should launch an HP Copy Utility dialog before starting to scan. On Windows 2000 SP2, the Copy Utility begins to scan immediately as it would if the copy button were pressed. In this problem, after starting the Copy Utility, you must cancel the copy in order to access the settings in the HP Copy Utility.

KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS UPDATE:
If the scanner still is not found after installing the update and restarting Windows, unplug the scanner's USB and power cables. Wait twenty seconds and then plug them back in.
You may have to also remove the scanner from Device Manager if it is found as an "Unknown Device" by Windows.
Instructions on how to remove a HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device from Device Manager in Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
In Windows XP, Click Start, right-click My Computer, then Properties .
a. In Windows 2000, find the My Computer Icon on the Desktop, right click on My Computer, then Properties.
The System Properties box will appear.
Click the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Imaging Devices. A drop down menu will appear.
Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.
To download: Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. Once the file is downloaded, double-click on the file, the software will decompress and then install automatically.
Please restart your system after the update is finished installing.

The 1.4.2 release of HP Scanning Software adds all the features of the prior releases, including Maximum Pixel Depth option for scanning at the greatest bit depth for your scanner, drag and drop (using the option key) allowing the current selection area to be dragged and dropped into applications that support drag and drop, and a resolution tab that has been added to the preferences to allow the setting and remembering of custom resolutions. In addition, the software now supports image-only PDF as a file type. With this additional file type, scanning to e-mail with an ADF will attach to the e-mail message a single PDF file for all the pages that are scanned. A menu item for scanning to e-mail has been added as well as scanning to PaperPort.
To all of these features 1.4.2 adds TWAIN support for the HP ScanJets on the Macintosh. HP PrecisionScan Pro now is a TWAIN source supporting TWAIN 1.7. This release also adds the capability to scan directly to a text, RTF or HTML file using Readiris 6.06. There is also now the ability to save and load a group of settings for the HP PrecisionScan Pro software. This allows the same settings to be used time after time.
There are several other minor enhancements to the software. PhotoPaint has been added to the list of creator types for the images files. The ADF scan settings are remembered from scan to scan. The lamp timer mechanisms have been enhanced. The Preferences dialog has been enhanced. The help system has been updated to describe all these features. Several other minor defects have been fixed. The 1.4.2 release is the most recent and will be shipping with all HP ScanJets with Macintosh software.
Owners of the HP ScanJet 5300c series, HP ScanJet 5370c series, HP ScanJet 6300c/6350c series, and HP ScanJet 6390c may benefit from downloading these files and updating their software.

In addition, the software now supports image-only PDF as a file type. With this additional file type, scanning to e-mail with an ADF will attach to the e-mail message a single PDF file for all the pages that are scanned. A menu item for scanning to e-mail has been added as well as scanning to PaperPort.
To all of these features 1.4.2 adds TWAIN support for the HP ScanJets on the Macintosh. HP PrecisionScan Pro now is a TWAIN source supporting TWAIN 1.7. This release also adds the capability to scan directly to a text, RTF or HTML file using Readiris 6.06. There is also now the ability to save and load a group of settings for the HP PrecisionScan Pro software. This allows the same settings to be used time after time.
There are several other minor enhancements to the software. PhotoPaint has been added to the list of creator types for the images files. The ADF scan settings are remembered from scan to scan. The lamp timer mechanisms have been enhanced. The Preferences dialog has been enhanced. The help system has been updated to describe all these features. Several other minor defects have been fixed. The 1.4.2 release is the most recent and will be shipping with all HP ScanJets with Macintosh software.
Owners of the HP ScanJet 5300c series, HP ScanJet 5370c series, HP ScanJet 6300c/6350c series, and HP ScanJet 6390c may benefit from downloading these files and updating their software.

This update fixes a problem with the HP ScanJet 6300c Copy Utility seen on Windows 2000, service pack 2.
When launched from the Start menu, the Copy Utility should launch an HP Copy Utility dialog before starting to scan. On Windows 2000 SP2, the Copy Utility begins to scan immediately as it would if the copy button were pressed. In this problem, after starting the Copy Utility, you must cancel the copy in order to access the settings in the HP Copy Utility.
This update restores the intended behavior.

This update will only run on Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems.
NOTE: It is important to restart the computer after you install this update.
WITH THIS UPDATE:
If the scanner still is not found after installing the update and restarting Windows, unplug the scanner's USB and power cables. Wait twenty seconds and then plug them back in.
You may have to also remove the scanner from Device Manager if it is found as an "Unknown Device" by Windows.
Instructions on how to remove a HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device from Device Manager in Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
In Windows XP, Click Start, right-click My Computer, then Properties .
a. In Windows 2000, find the My Computer Icon on the Desktop, right click on My Computer, then Properties.
The System Properties box will appear.
Click the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Imaging Devices. A drop down menu will appear.
Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.
To download: Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. Once the file is downloaded, double-click on the file, the software will decompress and then install automatically.

If the scanner still is not found after installing the update and restarting Windows, unplug the scanner's USB and power cables. Wait twenty seconds and then plug them back in.
You may have to also remove the scanner from Device Manager if it is found as an "Unknown Device" by Windows.
Instructions on how to remove a HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device from Device Manager in Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
In Windows XP, Click Start, right-click My Computer, then Properties .
a. In Windows 2000, find the My Computer Icon on the Desktop, right click on My Computer, then Properties.
The System Properties box will appear.
Click the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Imaging Devices. A drop down menu will appear.
Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.
To download: Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. Once the file is downloaded, double-click on the file, the software will decompress and then install automatically.

Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.

In Windows XP, Click Start, right-click My Computer, then Properties .
a. In Windows 2000, find the My Computer Icon on the Desktop, right click on My Computer, then Properties.
The System Properties box will appear.
Click the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Imaging Devices. A drop down menu will appear.
Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.

KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS UPDATE:
If the scanner still is not found after installing the update and restarting Windows, unplug the scanner's USB and power cables. Wait twenty seconds and then plug them back in.
You may have to also remove the scanner from Device Manager if it is found as an "Unknown Device" by Windows.
Instructions on how to remove a HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device from Device Manager in Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
In Windows XP, Click Start, right-click My Computer, then Properties .
a. In Windows 2000, find the My Computer Icon on the Desktop, right click on My Computer, then Properties.
The System Properties box will appear.
Click the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Imaging Devices. A drop down menu will appear.
Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.
To download: Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. Once the file is downloaded, double-click on the file, the software will decompress and then install automatically.
Please restart your system after the update is finished installing.

This file updates the HP Copy Utility software which shipped with the HP ScanJet 6300C/6350C/6390C series of scanners. It a problem which causes the HP Copy Utility to not print when used with certain USB printers. When using the HP Copy Utility, the scanner completes its scan, but nothing gets sent to the printer and no error is reported. This update corrects that problem.
Manual Installation Instructions:
Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. You will now be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where the download will be placed on your hard disk. (Example: If you wanted to download to your C:\TEMP you would select that folder from the list of folders in the download "Save As" screen.)
Now open the C:\Temp folder (if that was your selected folder), and double-click on the file you downloaded. This file will decompress into a default folder c:\sj470cu, or any folder of your choice. You will find the SETUP.EXE file in the c:\sj470cu folder, or the folder that you chose. Double-click the SETUP.EXE file to activate the software installation.

When launched from the Start menu, the Copy Utility should launch an HP Copy Utility dialog before starting to scan. In Windows XP, Click Start, right-click My Computer, then Properties .
a. In Windows 2000, find the My Computer Icon on the Desktop, right click on My Computer, then Properties.
The System Properties box will appear.
Click the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Imaging Devices. A drop down menu will appear.
Highlight the entry for the HP Scanjet scanner and/or Unknown Device then click Remove.
Click OK to remove the device.
Close Device Manager and the System Properties windows.
To download: Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to select the folder (subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. Once the file is downloaded, double-click on the file, the software will decompress and then install automatically.

The recommended procedure should be to: 1) Uninstall current scanner software. 2) Install new scanner software. 3) If you have problems with the new software and/or scanner, then run this update.
Download Instructions:
Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the file. The file will decompress into a default folder c:\sj590, or any folder of your choice. Go to c:\sj590 (or the folder you chose). Double-click on the file you downloaded. Click "Unzip" on the window that appears, then "OK" twice. The software upgrade will install automatically.
