1. INTRODUCTION

This document explains the installation and use of the Autodesk Device
Interface (ADI) plotter driver for Dataproducts printers. This driver
supports the printers and AutoCAD versions listed above. AutoCAD drivers
are available for additional Dataproducts printers that are not listed
above. Contact Dataproducts or your driver supplier to get the correct
driver and installation instructions for your printer.

This driver is a "protected-mode" ADI plotter driver. ADI is an acronym
for the Autodesk Device Interface, with describes the specification that
was used to create this driver. Along with these instructions, please
consult your AutoCAD Installation and Performance Guide concerning plotting
with protected mode ADI devices, your AutoCAD Users Guide section on
plotting, and your printer user's manual.

This driver is a product of and is supported by Dataproducts Corporation,
not by Autodesk.

To use the driver, do the following:

1. INSTALL THE DRIVER FILE
2. CONFIGURE AUTOCAD
3. PLOT FROM AUTOCAD

Details for each of these steps are given below. The procedures differ
depending on what release of AutoCAD you are using. Follow only the steps
under the headings for your release of AutoCAD.

2. INSTALL THE DRIVER FILE

Your distribution disk or directory contains one or more driver files.
Different driver files work with different operating systems and different
AutoCAD releases. You must copy the correct driver file to the proper
AutoCAD directory and filename on your hard disk.

Follow the instructions in the installation section below that is labeled
for your release of AutoCAD. Afterwards, continue with the section labeled
CONFIGURE AUTOCAD. Installation sections are available for the following
AutoCAD Releases:

1. Copy the required driver to a directory on your PC. The
following method is recommended.

cd \word Change to Word working directory
copy a:\word\*.* Copy driver files to Word directory

The example above assumes that Microsoft Word is installed in the
directory \word on drive C:, and the installation diskette is in
drive A:.

2. Run Microsoft Word.
3. Select the File/Printer Setup menu item.
4. Select the Word directory.
5. Click on the Files box to list PRD files (i.e. driver files)
6. Click on the PRD file and a list of Dataproducts printers will
appear in the Printer Name box.
7. Select the required model, change settings such as Connect To
(port) or Graphic Resolution if required, and click OK. The
printer driver is now loaded.
SELECTING PAPER SOURCE IN MICROSOFT WORD
-----------------------------------------
You can select a paper feed source in File/Print or File/Printer
Setup dialogues. The following choices are available for
Dataproducts Typhoon printers:
1. Typhoon 30 Simplex model - Continuous, Bin 1, Envelope.
Continuous - uses default printer hopper (set on printer's
control panel)
Bin 1 - uses Hopper 6
Bin 2 - uses Hopper 5
Mixed - first page from Bin 1, the rest from Bin 2
Envelope - uses Hopper 4

2. Typhoon 30 Duplex model - Continuous, Bin 1, Bin 2, Bin 3,
Mixed, Envelope.
Continuous - uses default printer hopper (set on printer's
control panel)
Bin 1 - uses Hopper 1
Bin 2 - uses Hopper 2
Bin 3 - uses Hopper 3
Mixed - first page from Bin 1, the rest from Bin 2
Envelope - uses Hopper 4

3. Typhoon 60 model - Continous, Bin 1, Bin 2, Bin 3, Mixed, Envelope.

Continuous - uses default printer hopper (set on printer's control
panel)
Bin 1 - uses Hopper 1

Bin 3 - uses Hopper 3
Mixed - The first page prints from Bin 1, the rest from Bin 2

Limitations: Word 5.5 / 6.0 Postscript
*******************************************************************************
1. When using the Typhoon 30 or 60 Postscript driver in Word 5.5 or 6.0 you need
to select the appropriate Hopper (I.E. Hopper 1, Hopper 2, Hopper 3, Hopper 4)
for the paper size of the job you are sending. If you send the wrong page size
to a certain Hopper the job will print on the page from that Hopper no matter
what its size is.

printer drivers by scrolling down the list with the arrow keys then entering
(1 or S) to confirm your selection.
7. Press Enter to confirm filename
8. Exit Help Screen (F7).
9. Scroll cursor bar to appropriate printer driver.
10. Type S to confirm selection. The printer driver is now
loaded.

To install the DPC Typhoon 30/40/60 PCL5 Printer Driver:

1. Start Windows 3.1.

2. Choose Control Panel from the Main Group in Program Manager.
The Control Panel window appears.

3. Choose the Printers icon from the Control Panel window.
The Printers dialog box appears.

4. Choose the Add >> button.

5. From the List of Printers: dialog box, select the Install Unlisted
or Updated Printer.

6. Choose Install.

7. Insert the driver diskette

8. Enter the drive letter of the drive containing the driver diskette.

9. Choose OK.

10. Highlight the appropriate driver for your printer and click
OK. Windows may request that you insert one of the Windows Installation
disks, if so, follow the instructions on the screen.

11. The printer driver defaults to LPT1. To change the connection
select the Connect button.

13. Select Typhoon 30 PCL5 or Typhoon 40 PCL5 or Typhoon 60 PCL5 in Installed
Printers list box and click Set as Default Printer button.

14. Use Setup, Options, and Fonts selections to verify the required printer
driver configuration.

15. Click the Close button.

The Typhoon 30/40/60 PCL5 printer driver is now installed. If you have
any difficulties, refer to the Windows 3.1 User's Guide Chapter 6, Print
Manager for information about installing printer drivers.

* TECHNICAL NOTES AND LIMITATIONS *
***********************************
1. When printing with resident fonts accurate 6 lpi spacing is not preserved.

2. In Microsoft Word 2.0 for Windows 3.1 6pt letter gothic text cannot be
selected from the list of point sizes, instead the information must be
typed in as 4pt and it will print correctly.

3. The width of the Output Bin Box in the Options window is not large enough
to accommodate Cascade 1,2,3,4 combination in the Typhoon 60 PCL5 driver.

4. Printing at 150 & 75 DPI resolutions may cause some loss of image for paper
sizes: Ledger, A3, A4, B4, B5.

5. When printing to a file from some applications VFC fonts may be substituted
with resident fonts and VFC fonts become unavailable.

To install the DPC Typhoon 30/40/60 printer default resolution Printer
drivers:

1. Start Windows 95.

2. Insert the Dataproducts driver disk into drive a: or b:.

3. Open the "My Computer" group.

4. Open the "Printers" folder and select "Add Printers".
The "Add Printers Wizard" appears.

5. Proceed though the series of windows presented by the "Add Printers
Wizard" - selecting the "Have Disk" button when prompted for the
type of printer to install.

6. Enter the letter of the drive containing the driver disk (from step 2).

7. Select the printer model to install.

8. Continue through the "Add Printers Wizard" until the installation is
complete.

NOTE: If you installs Windows 95 over Windows 3.x and you had
the same Dataproducts printer model installed in 3.x as you
are trying to install in 95, a message may appear after step 7
above informing you that a driver is already installed for this
printer. Choose "Replace existing driver" option (Windows 3.x
PCL5 drivers are not compatible with Windows 95). Once
installation is complete, delete the "Dataproducts
Typhoon (copy 2)" icon in the "Printers" group.

* TECHNICAL NOTES AND LIMITATIONS *
***********************************
1. When printing with resident fonts accurate 6 lpi spacing is not preserved.

with resident fonts and VFC fonts become unavailable.

5. Choosing Vector Graphics increase the speed of printing, but in some cases
like overlays may cause data loss of image. If this problem occurs, switch
to Raster Graphics.

6. Changing margin settings in the Paper\Unprintable Area causes loss of image
if Vector Graphics is selected.

7. Restore Defaults in Details\Spool Settings does not effect bi-directional
settings.

You need to follow the following procedure to install any of the Dataproducts
Typhoon 30/40/60 PCL5 Printer drivers included with this disk:

1. After logging in, execute "PRINT MANAGER" from the "MAIN" program group.

2. Select "Printer" and choose "Create Printer..." from the menu bar.

3. Type in a unique name in the "Printer Name" box and select "Other" in the
"Driver" box. (This option is at the end of the list of printer names.)

4. At the "Install Driver" prompt window, type in the letter of the floppy
disk drive containing the Typhoon 30/40/60 Windows NT 3.5 drivers diskette
(A:\ or B:\) and click "OK".

5. At this point a list of printer drivers included on this disk appears in
the "Select Driver" window. Select the printer model by highlighting
the printer name, and click "OK". Wait while the appropriate files
are copied onto you system. When you are back in the Create Printer
dialog box, click "OK".

6. By now you should see a window titled "Printer Setup". In this window you can
configure various features including Printer memory, Font substitution,
Halftone and assign different paper sizes to different paper trays installed
in the printer.

7. After closing Printer Setup and Printer Properties windows, select
the appropriate printer in the "Default" box.

1. When printing with resident fonts accurate 6 lpi spacing is not preserved.

2. In Microsoft Word 2.0 for Windows 6pt letter gothic text cannot be
selected from the list of point sizes, instead the information must be
typed in as 4pt and it will print correctly.

3. Printing at 150 & 75 DPI resolutions may cause some loss of image for paper

5. RASTER PRINTER FONT INSTALLER does not recognize some soft fonts or
does not recognize them properly.

6. Microsoft Word v6.0a might causes small line to print in lower left hand
corner in Landscape orientation.

7. Changing PCL Upper Tray mapping via OCP does not have any effect
on the driver functionality, because the driver uses physical hopper
numbers for paper source selection.

You need to follow the following procedure to install any of the drivers
included with this disk:

* NOT THE FIRST TIME INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS *

If you already have installed the driver and need to reinstall it again,
the following is the procedure you need to follow, in order to un-install
the driver:

1. Select the "FILE" command in the PROGRAM MANAGER. Select the "RUN"
option, and type "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGEDIT32.EXE". (If for some reason
the directory and drive letter of where NT files are stored at is
different, replace the C:\WINNT with the correct drive letter and
directory)

2. Select the window titled "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine".
Double click on "SYSTEM"
Double click on "ControlSet001"
Double click on "Control"
Double click on "Print"
Double click on "Environments"
Double click on "Windows NT x86"

NOTE: If you installed Windows 95 over Windows 3.x and you had

are trying to install in 95, a message may appear after step 7
above informing you that a driver is already installed for this
printer. At this point you can choose to keep the existing driver
or to replace it. Select replace and continue through the
installation process. Once installation is complete, delete
the "Dataproducts Typhoon (copy 2)" icon in the "Printers" group.
