Installation Instructions
This section will help you in the download of the software to your computer and start you on the install process. Below are easy-to-follow instructions for downloading and installing printer drivers.

Approximately 590 MB of hard disk space is required to use this download.
Close any screen savers, virus protection programs, or other software programs running on your computer.
Click on Download Now and a File Download box will appear.
Select Save This Program to Disk and a Save As box will appear.
Select a directory to save the file in and click Save.
Locate the file using Windows Explorer when the download has completed.
Double click on the file. This will extract all the driver files into a directory on your hard drive. The directory these files are extracted to will have a similar name to the printer model that was downloaded (i.e., c:\hp_LJ1018_Full_Solution). However, you can change the path and directory name at the time of extracting the file. Please note the directory and path where the files are extracted.
Install this file by clicking Start then Run on your PC. Select Browse and find the directory where the file had been saved. Double-click on the file, autorun.exe to start the install.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
NOTE: After the installation is complete the downloaded .exe file and the extraction folder (by default: C:\hp_LJ1018_Full_Solution) can be deleted to up 205 MB of hard disk space.

Installation Instructions

Before proceeding with the software installation, the printer must first be properly set up and powered on. An HP printer must have been previously installed on the USB port successfully and the computer rebooted. Note: this applies to all three printer models.
Close any programs running on your computer.
Click the Download button and a File Download box will appear.
Select Save and a Save As box will appear.
Select a folder into which to save the printer driver package and click Save. Make note of the folder path for later use.
Locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer (after the download has completed).
Connect the printer to the system via USB and power it on.
Windows Found New Hardware Wizard should appear.
Click Next.
On the next screen ensure the radio button labeled "Search for the best driver for this device?" is selected,
Click Next.
Please verify only the checkbox labeled "Specify a Location" is checked.
Fill in the edit box with the path noted in step 5. Click Next.
Click Finish.
Now, the New Hardware Found Wizard will repeat the process for the printer driver portion of the install. Repeat steps 8-13 above for this portion. For Step 12 the path to the driver should already be filled out with the same path you used in the previous portion of the install, which is acceptable.
A new dialog will appear to name the printer. Leave the name as listed and simply click the Finish button.
Click Finish.

This download is intended for first time installation of the HP LaserJet 1018 printer driver via a USB connection. If you intend to simply update your print driver, use the "HP LaserJet Basic Print Driver" package rather than this package.
Use this software for first time USB installations only. Do NOT attach USB cable until prompted by the installation program. The drivers contained in this download are the same drivers found on HP LaserJet 1018 version 3.0 CD that is currently available on the web and is scheduled to soft roll in the box with the printer.
The HP LaserJet Basic Plug and Play Bundle provides the following:
An EZInstall program to assist with installation.

Close any software programs running on your computer.
Click the Download button on this page and a File Download box will appear.

To install a new driver when a communication port is already created
Click Next after the file is extracted.
To update an existing driver
Right mouse click the HP LaserJet 1018 driver entry in the Printers folder and then choose Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab and then choose the New Driver button, the Add Printer Driver Wizard appears. Click Next.
Select HP from the list of manufactures.
Select HP LaserJet 1018 There may be multiple entries for the driver that matches your printer model, choose the one with the most recent date. Click Next to continue.
Follow the remaining instructions in the Add Printer Wizard to complete the driver installation.
The driver will update after you click OK to close the Properties dialog.
After the installation is complete you can delete the file "lj1018-HB-pd-winv64-xx.exe" if desired.
