Getting Started
Included Files
The DUSE USB Driver software is delivered as a
single executable (.EXE) file, DUSE.EXE. The
DUSE.EXE file supports USB hardware that meets
the Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI)
specification, the Universal Host Controller Interface
(UHCI) Specification, and the Enhanced Host
Controller Interface (EHCI) specifications.
Device Support
This version provides support for the following Mass
Storage devices:
• USB ZIP drives
• USB Hard disk
• USB Super Floppy/HiFD drives

Some floppy disks require a default
sector size of 1024 or 2048 bytes. See
the SECTORSIZE command line
parameter for details on how this can be
set.
• USB CD-ROM
• USB MO drives

640M and 1.3G disks require a default
sector size of 2048 bytes. See the
SECTORSIZE command line parameter
for details on how this can be set.
Installing the DOS Driver
Copy the driver file
Create a directory on your boot device to store the
executable driver files. As an example:
C:\> mkdir duse
C:\> copy sourcefiles c:\duse
Config.sys
Add the following text to your config.sys file:
DEVICE=C:\DUSE\DUSE.EXE [options]
Command-Line Parameters
DUSE allows the following command line
parameters. Only the first characters before [.] are
required.

USB 2.0 IDE DRIVE CONTROLLER ("KAZAN")

In Windows 2000 the Lava USB 2.0 IDE Controller installed in
the Kazan drive enclosure [USB Lava Kazan Storage Adapter V3 (TPP)]
will work attached to a USB 1.1 or a USB 2.0 port.

Attached to a USB 1.1 port the transfer speed will be limited
to 12Mbits/second.

To achieve full potential of the Kazan interface,a USB 2.0 port
such as the Lava USB 2.0 Host Addapter should be used. This will
allow the Kazan interface to operate at 480Mbits/second
Installation:

When connected to a USB port ( 1.1 or 2.0), Windows should
detect the device and start the New Hardware wizard. All files
should be native to the Win2000 O/S and should be loaded
automatically.

NOTE ON OPERATION:

The USB busses are designed for "HOT" Plugging and unplugging.

When removing, unplugging the Lava Kazan drive enclosure, follow
Window's procedure for removing hardware:

- Open the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" wizard by clicking on
its icon, which can be found in the Windows System Tray
at the bottom right corner of the Windows screen.
- Select/Highlight the drive
- Click "CLose"
- Windows will inform you when it is safe to remove the drive.
NOTE:
If you not properly unplug your devices from the USB 2.0 PCI
Host Adapter, a message indicating the presence of an "Unknown
Device" may appear causing improper subsequent installation.

To restore the device follow these steps:

1. Power off the device.
2. Enter Device Manager|Universal Serial Bus controllers
and remove the "Unknown device".
3. Delete the files unknown.inf and unknown.pnf from the
\winnt\inf directory.
4. Power up the device and the system will find and
recognize/reinstall the device.
