Following technical tips are the procedures we experiemented and document
it to smooth your scanner application installation while using the
SCardSI( PCMCIA/SCSI ) and SparCSI( Parallel/SCSI ) adapters from Shining:
[DOS/Windows3.1x]
1. Install the SCardSI or SparCSI as it described on each installation
procedures.
2. While system is booting up, the drivers attempt inquiring every devices
on the SCSI chain. If sucessful, each device names will be displayed
on the screen. If not, check the scanner termination and make sure is
on. SparCSI requires device to send in the TERMPWR to activate the
converter. If SparCSI LED is not lighted, use the keyboard power adapter
or wall mount power adapter for SparCSI. SCardSI use the power from
PCMCIA socket. Both of the SCardSI and SparCSI are self-terminated
and do not send out the TERMPWR to the SCSI chain. If the last device
on the SCSI chain is scanner, make sure the scanner did terminate
internally.
3. Install the scanner TWAIN DataSource provided by scanner manufacturers.
Do not select the "manufacturer interface card".
Choose either ASPI compatible device or Adaptec ASPI driver options. Both
SparCSI and SCardSI are ASPI fully compatible.
4. Install the scanning application software such as OminiPage and etc.. to
complete the installation procedure. Now, your scanner is ready to use.
Note: You might want to re-install the latest TWAIN DataSource drivers from
your manufacturers'.
[Window95]
1. Install the SCardSI or SparCSI as it described on each installation
procedures.
2. While system is booting up, the Windows95 attempt inquiring every devices
on the SCSI chain. An "Unknown device" message will be posted for
scanner. Choose "Do not install driver" for every messages show up
to complete the installation process.
If no such message shows up, check the scanner termination and make sure is
on. SparCSI requires device to send in the TERMPWR to activate the
converter. If TERMPWR is not sent out, use the keyboard power adapter
or wall mount power adapter for SparCSI. SCardSI use the power from
PCMCIA socket. Both of the SCardSI and SparCSI are self-terminated
and do not send out the TERMPWR to the SCSI chain. If the last device
on the SCSI chain is scanner, make sure the scanner did terminate
internally.
3. Install the scanner TWAIN DataSource provided by scanner manufacturers
by "Start", "Run", and the "a:\install.exe".
Do not select the "manufacturer interface card".
Choose either ASPI compatible device or Adaptec ASPI driver options for
Win95 platform. Shinig providess 32-bit MPD drivers for SCardSI and
SparCSI which are fully ASPI32 compatible.
4. Install the scanning application software such as OminiPage and etc.. to
complete the installation procedure. Now, your scanner is ready to use.
Note: It's better to re-install the latest TWAIN DataSource driver from
scanner's manufacturer.
Check scanner manufacturers' WEB page or BBS to acquire the latest
TWIAN DataSource for Windows3.x and Windows95. Twain DataSource
drivers supported on the Windows3.x is not usable on Windows95
plaftorm.
