Download Instructions:Please follow the steps below to download and install the program:Download the Smart Connect Upgrade file to a download folder (please note this folder for reference).
Go to the folder where the file was downloaded and double-click the SCU_sny_DE_30.exe file to extract it. This launches the WinZip Self-Extractor program.
Click Unzip to extract the file to a folder (please note this folder for reference).
Exit the WinZip Self-Extractor program.
Installation Instructions:1. Uninstall the previous version of Smart Connect 2.1
Open Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove programs.
Select Smart Connect 2.1 and click Add/Remove.
2. Install Smart Connect 3.0:Browse to the folder where you extracted the SCU_sny_DE_30.exe file.
Double-click the Setup.exe file to start the installation.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now and click Finish.
3.Install Sony i.Link (1394) Adapter:The Add New Hardware Wizard appears after your VAIO restarts.
Click Next, and select Search for the best driver for your device.
Select Specify a location, and type C:\Windows\INF.
Click Next.
The Wizard installs the Sonyinet.inf file.
Click Finish and then restart your VAIO.

1. Download instructions:Prepare a new folder in the C:\ directory to place the file downloaded from the web - Name it Download.
Download the DVGate Shared Library Upgrade for version 2.x to 2.3 and DVGate Update Version 2.x to 2.3 files.
When the download is complete, right-click My Computer and click Explore. Once in Windows Explorer, click the View menu and click Details. Browse to the location of your file to check the size of it. If the driver size is the same, your download has been successfully completed, if the size is different, delete the file you have downloaded and restart the download.
2. Installation instruction
Browse to C\Download.
Double-click the DVshared_lib_2301_06221.exe file.
Click Next.
Select I want to restart the computer now to reboot your notebook.
When your VAIO notebook has restarted, go to C:\Download.
Double-click the DVgate_Patch_2306070_XX.exe file(XX indicates the language).

Description:Where can I find the Windows 98 driver for VAIO USB mouse (PCGA-UMS1)?
Solution:Driver update for VAIOs: This update program allows you to install the appropriate driver for Windows 98 and Windows 98SE. Please follow the instructions carefully to avoid any problems during the downloading and installation procedure.
NOTES:Make sure to connect your VAIO USB mouse before installing the driver.
If the mouse is not connected, the Button tab may not appear on the screen even after installation.
The contents of the dialog box may differ depending on your VAIO.
New functions
The following tabs will be added in Mouse Properties.
The Button tab – You can set up functions for each button.
The Wheel tab – You can easily change the scrolling speed.
The Pointer Utility tab – The Sonar function setup will help you find the pointer and the Pointer Vanish function will automatically make the pointer invisible when you begin typing on the keyboard. The X-Focus setup will make the window active by simply moving the pointer over the title bar of a window.
The Others tab – Setting up to display the Mouse icon in the Task tray.
Checking your driver and driver version.
Connect the mouse to your VAIO.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Mouse - The Mouse Properties dialog box now appears.
If the Button tab is present, it is the latest driver and will not need updating.
NOTE: Some VAIO notebooks may have an internal Button tab for the pointing device. If you cannot find a Button tab, or if you only find the Button tab for the internal pointing device, you may have an old driver installed or improper driver installed. Follow the instructions below to download the latest driver: Download instructions
Create a new folder to place the file downloaded from the web - Name it Download.
Download the Optional USB mouse driver file into the Download folder.
When the download is complete, click Start, point to Programs and then click Windows Explorer.
Click View and select Details to check the size of the driver - if the size is the same, the download was successfully completed.
If the size is different, delete the file you have downloaded and proceed with the download again.
Use Windows Explorer to find the UMD_sny_4013811.exe file.
Double-click the UMD_sny_4013811.exe file, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Make sure that Directory to extract text box shows C:\Download on the display.
Click OK.
The file opens on the extracted folder.
Driver update instructions
(A) Uninstalling the old driver: Connect the USB mouse to your VAIO.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs icon and click the Install/Uninstall tab.
Select Sony USB Mouse from the list and click Add /Remove.
Follow the on-screen instructions - When removing the old driver is completed, remove the mouse from your VAIO.
Restart your VAIO.
(B) Installing the new driver:Close all active applications.
Click Start, point to Programs and click Windows Explorer.
Browse to C:/Download.
Double-click the Setup file in the Download folder.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Once the installation is successfully completed, the Setup Complete window will appear - Click Finish.
Connect the USB mouse into the USB connector on your VAIO.
The New Hardware Wizard will appear (Please note however that some types of computers may close the rest of the procedure automatically).
Click Next.
Select Search for the best driver for your device.
Click Next.
Verify that the box next to Specify a location is not selected, and then click Next.
Select The updated driver and click Next twice.
The installation process for the drivers will begin - You will see the following message: Software necessary for the new hardware device have been installed.
Click Finish.
IMPORTANT NOTE for the PCG-Z600RE(Windows 98 ONLY):To avoid any startup problems when the mouse is connected to the PCG-Z600RE, follow this procedure: Click Start, point to Programs and click MS-DOS Prompt.
Type cd.. to obtain the C:\ prompt.
Type edit autoexec.bat and a window will appear.
Change the line from: C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\MCAFEE~1\SCAN.EXE C:\ to: C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\MCAFEE~1\BOOTSCAN.EXE C:\.
Save the file and then exit the DOS prompt.

This patch resolves the following issue: When accessing the Hot Key (Luminosity, Volume,...) function with the JogDial, it is sometimes not possible to change the value selected - The JogDial still browses the main menu.
Make sure JogDial is properly installed.

This procedure resolves the following issue: DV camcorders put on the market in 2002 and later are not recognized by DVGate.
Installation Procedure
NOTES:Please note that the drive letter G:\ corresponds to the CD-ROM drive in this procedure.
It is recommended that you back up the existing files on your VAIO before proceeding with the installation procedure – Sony is not responsible for any data lost during the installation procedure.
You may experience a malfunction while installing or running third party software - Please recover your VAIO and then follow the upgrade procedure.
Make sure that the AC adapter of your VAIO is plugged in or that the battery is sufficiently charged.
Disconnect all other devices except for the CD-ROM drive and floppy disk drive of your VAIO.
Perform a recovery on your VAIO notebook.
1. Uninstall DVGate Motion 1.4.2:Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click DVGate Motion 1.4.2 and then click Add/Remove.
Click Yes to uninstall DVGate Motion 1.4.2.
Click OK.
2. Uninstall DVGate Still 1.2.2:Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click DVGate Motion 1.2.2 and then click Add/Remove.
Click Yes to uninstall DVGate Motion 1.4.2.
Click OK.
3. Remove any DVGate shortcuts:Click Start, point to VAIO, Imaging and Audio, and then right-click DVGate Motion.
Click Delete and then click Yes.
Click Start, point to VAIO, Imaging and Audio, and then right-click DVGate Still.
Click Delete and then click Yes.
4. Install Sony Shared Library:Browse to G:\Library\Sony Shared Library\Windows 98\.
Double-click the Setup.exe file and then click Next.
When Windows detects a locked file, click Reboot - Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
Click Finish – Your VAIO will now restart.
5. Install Sony UI Library:Browse to G:\Library\Sony UI Library\.
Double-click the Setup.exe file and then click Next.
Click Finish.
6. Install DVShared Library:Browse to G:\Library\DVshared Library\.
Double-click the Setup.exe file – You will be asked to click Next three times.
Click OK.
7. Install DIRECTX 7.0:Browse to G:\Library\DirectX\DirectX7\.
Double-click the dxsetup.exe file.
Click Yes.
Click ReInstall DirectX.
Click OK to restart your VAIO.
8. Install DIRECTX MEDIA:Browse to G:\Library\DirectX\DXMedia\.
Double-click the Setup shortcut.
Finish the Installation and then click OK to restart your VAIO.
9. Install DVGate:Browse to G:\Applications\Dvgate\.
Double-click the Setup.exe file and then click Next .
Click Finish.
10. Install the DV Shared Library patch:Browse to G:\Library\Patch\.
Double-click the Setup.exe file and then click Next .
Click OK.
11. Install the DVGate patch:Browse to G:\Applications\Patch\.
Double-click the Setup.exe file – You will be asked to click Next twice.
Click Finish.
12. Set DVGate to use PAL instead of NTSC:Browse to C:\Program Files\Sony\DVgate\.
Double-click the Dvsigchg.exe file.
Click Yes to continue.
Select PAL and then click OK.
Click Yes to restart your VAIO.
Additional optional action:If you are unable to start PictuerGear (depending on your VAIO model) after following the update procedure, described above:Browse to G:\Applications\PictureGear\.
Right-click the fixpg.inf file and then click Install .
