CardSoft 5.32.18 Readme
-----------------------
Known Issues
------------
1. Install - Unable to open DISK.ID file.
If this problem occurs it is because there are not enough file
handles available. To remedy this problem increase the number
of handles available in CONFIG.SYS (eg: FILES=40), reboot the
system, and reinstall CardSoft from the floppy drive.
2. Thinkpad SelectaDock I and SelectaDock II with Xircom Ethernet/Modem 33.6
Due to resource constraints and a deficiency in the Xircom driver you
must disable the Infrared port using the ThinkPad utilities in order
to use this card on the dock slots.
Also in order to use the XIRCOM card with the SelectaDock I or
SelectaDock II follow the additional two steps below:
1. Copy the XIRCOM.EXE file from the XIRCOM directory on the
installation disk into the C:\CARDSOFT directory.
2. Enter the line below at the command prompt:
C:\CARDSOFT\XIRCOM.EXE
After completing the two steps above the system will be prepared to
use the XIRCOM card. In the event that you reboot the system you
will have to follow the above steps again in order to facilitate
use of the XIRCOM card again.
If you intend to use XIRCOM card permenantly then you may want to
run the XIRCOM.EXE program in your AUTOEXC.BAT as shown below.
Enter the line below in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:
C:\CARDSOFT\XIRCOM.EXE

Installing the Synaptics TouchPad Driver
-------------------------------------------
NOTE REGARDING NT SERVICE PACKS:
--------------------------------
This driver requires Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 2 or greater
installed. At the time this document was written, the latest
Service Pack was available from Microsoft at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/NTW/info/ntupdates.htm
NOTE REGARDING SAVING OF SETTINGS:
----------------------------------
Windows NT does not save any of the user settings for users belonging
to the "Guests" user group. This includes special TouchPad settings as
well as all other user settings. If you want your settings to be saved,
make sure your user account does not belong to the "Guests" group
using the User Manager program (you must be Administrator to change
user settings).
NOTE REGARDING MULTIPROCESSOR MACHINES:
---------------------------------------
Though we believe it should work, this driver has not been tested on
any multiprocessor machines.
On multiprocessor machines, this installation procedure will install
a keyboard driver that is compatible with the Synaptics TouchPad driver.
This keyboard driver is nearly identical to the standard Microsoft Driver,
and should work interchangably with it. However, if you use a third party
non-standard keyboard driver, the installation procedure may disable
it.
Installation procedure (with Service Pack 2 installed):
-------------------------------------------------------
First, if you have a new TouchPad, plug it in and reboot Windows NT.
Windows NT will then detect your new TouchPad and install a standard
mouse driver to handle it. You cannot install the Synaptics TouchPad
driver until this process is complete and your TouchPad is functioning
as a normal pointing device.
Log on to your NT system as "Administrator", or as another user with
administrator privileges.
Run "Setup.exe". This program will automatically install the Synaptics
TouchPad driver to handle all PS/2 and Serial pointing devices
attached to your computer.
You will need to restart Windows after the installation is complete.
If the driver has been installed correctly, after you have restarted
Windows you should see the TouchPad Icon in your task bar next to the
clock. Also, a dialog box entitled "Information about your TouchPad"
will pop up. You can prevent this dialog box from coming up in the
future by checking the "Stop showing me this message" checkbox.
For help using your TouchPad, choose "Tell me more..." from the
"Information about your TouchPad" dialog box, or double-click on the
TouchPad Icon in your task bar, and click on the "Help" button.
If you wish to change one or more of your pointing devices to using
a standard Microsoft or other third party driver, you should bring
up the Mouse control panel, and select the "General" tab. From there,
select the pointing device you want to change and click "Change...".
You may then select a different driver to handle that device.
