Lucent Modem driver The modem software drivers described in this note were built on April 2, 1999.
This is a release candidate version of V.90 drivers for Apollo ISA platform and Mars PCI platform.
Apollo - This version of drivers will run on DSP1642-CC, DSP1641-CC, DSP1643-CH, DSP1644-CH, DSP1641B-CH ROM code. 56K and V.90 will work only on the CH ROM codes; this is a run time check option.
Mars - this version of drivers will run on DSP1645 and DSP1646 - AB ROM code.
This version of drivers does not require the external SRAMS for K56flex or V.90.

Observations
The Advanced Port Replicator (APR) integrates your Notebook computer quickly
and easily into a desktop environment. The first time you connect (or dock) the
computer to the APR, use the instructions in this document to configure the computer
to use the APR.
NOTE: Because the Microsoft(R) Windows 98 operating system includes built-in support
for docking events, the steps to set up the APR are different for Windows 98 and
Microsoft Windows NT Make sure you follow the procedure that corresponds to the
operating system installed on your computer.
Advanced Port Replicator Setup for Windows 98
---------------------------------------------
1. If the computer is on, shut down the operating system and power off the
computer.
2. Disconnect all external devices from the APR.
3. Insert the computer into the APR.
4. Turn on the computer.
The computer will automatically detect the network interface controller(NIC)
and begin the software installation.
Advanced Port Replicator Setup for Windows NT
---------------------------------------------
If your computer is running Windows NT, you must install Phoenix NoteDock software
as described in the following procedure to set up your computer to usethe APR.
Phoenix NoteDock enables Windows NT to automatically configure the NIC when
the computer is connected to the APR.
1. If the computer is docked, shutdown the computer and undock it.
2. Turn on the computer and log on to Windows NT as Administrator.
3. Insert the Advanced Port Replicator drivers CD in the CD-ROM drive.
4. Double-click the "My Computer" icon.

VLANS on PRO/100 Adapters
=========================
A VLAN is a logical grouping of network devices put together as a LAN regardless
of their physical grouping or collision domains. VLANs let a user see and access
only specified network segments. This optimizes network efficiency and maintains
security access restrictions. VLANs require special switches that are capable of
supporting VLANs. All PRO/100+, PRO/100 S PCI and PRO/1000 adapters currently
support VLANs when attached to a VLAN enabled switch. The PRO/100 VE and VM
Desktop Adapters and Network Connections do not support VLANs.
A VLAN offers you the ability to group users and client PCs together into
logical workgroups, a critical consideration when connecting clients to servers
that are geographically dispersed across the building, campus, or enterprise
network.
Typically, VLANs consist of a common set of coworkers within the same department
but in different locations, a cross-functional team working on a joint project,
or a diverse set of users sharing the same network application. Joining workers
across the network forms logical working groups.
By using VLANs on your network, you can:
- Improve network performance
- Limit broadcast storms
- Improve adds, moves, and changes
- Minimize security problems
- Ease your management task
