Checking if your connection is active.
If your router has been correctly setup, you should be online after about 2 minutes. When you click ‘Running Status’ in the left menu, the status screen will be shown, containing details about the connection. In this screen, under ‘Wan Status’ the WAN ip adress and Domain name servers must be shown. These should match with the ip-details that were previously assigned directly to the pc. When using PPPoE, Linked time should be shown, and increase when you refresh the page.
General troubleshooting
1. If you cannot reach the router, use a static ip on your pc to test. Afterwards, you can select dynamic ip’s on your pc’s.
2. Renew the pc’s ip-address. Click Start ? Run and type WINIPCFG (or: CMD enter, followed by IPCONFIG under Windows 2000/XP). Check if the Ip-address is correct, DNS and Gateway should match the router. Both should be set to 192.168.1.1. Win98: You can click ‘release all’ followed by ‘renew all’ to force the pc to renew its address. Rebooting the PC will force a renew on all windows-variants.
3. The connection should be active after about 2 minutes. If this is not the case, turn off both the modem and router. Wait for about 5 minutes, and then turn on your modem. Wait untill the modem has completely started, and then turn on your router. After about two minutes, valid details should be shown on the ‘status’ screen.
4. Connection problems ? Remove firewall software like Norton Firewall and McAffee. These programs should not be used when using the router, since they can conflict with the router’s built-in firewall.
5. If your router appears to not save any settings:
In Explorer go to extra - ‘internet options’ -> erase ‘history’ and ‘cached files’
Also make sure that ‘work offline’ is not active under the ‘file’ menu.
Settings for providers that use Dynamic IP (DHCP)
If your provider uses DHCP to assign you an ip address, follow the steps below:
Click ‘Wizard’ in the left menu. Then click ‘next’ to proceed.
- Check ‘Ethernet Broadband (Dynamic IP)’ and click ‘Next’
- If your provider identifies your connection using a hostname, enter it here
Many providers identify you by using a unique mac-address. Assuming you previously used only one pc on the connection, its mac-address will be know with the provider. If you are running this wizard from that first pc, you must press the ‘clone mac’ button to copy that mac-address to the
router, overwriting the router’s own mac address. To the provider it will then seem as if the connected hardware is actually a PC instead of a router.
After setting up this page, click the ‘Next’ button, then the ‘save’ button to save the settings. Click ‘continue’ to return to the status page. After about 2 minutes the connection will be active, and you should be able to access the internet.
Installation
Using this router you can share your internet connection with one or more computers. Your cable- or dsl-modem must be connected to the WAN port. Your computers connect to ports 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Change the windows IP setup (Note: these only need to be changed if you modified them!)
a) Windows 95, 98, ME: Click Start ? Settings ? Control Panel ? Network ? TCP/IP properties (Select the TCP/IP set that is connected to the card) Set to automatic IP.
b) Windows 2000,XP: Click Start ? Control Panel ? Network And Internet Connections ? Network Connections ? Right-Click the LAN connection and select ‘Properties’ ? Set to Automatic IP and DNS
(By default, the router’s built-in DHCP server will assign each connected pc an ip address.)
Settings for providers that use PPPoE
If your provider uses PPTP or PPPoE to assign you an ip address, follow the steps below:
Click ‘Wizard’ in the left menu. Then click ‘next’ to proceed.
- Check ‘ADSL Virtual Dail-up (PPPoE)’and click ‘Next’
For PPPoE Setup:
Username: Your adsl or cable login name
Password: Your adsl or cable password
If you do not know any of the above details, and are sure that your provider uses PPPoE, please contact your provider for more information. Username and password are usually supplied by your provider in your first-time setup documents.
After setting up this page, click the ‘Next’ button, then the ‘save’ button to save the settings. Click ‘continue’ to return to the status page. After about 2 minutes the connection will be active, and you should be able to access the internet.
