The DWL-G520+ provides speeds of up to 54Mbps when
used with other D-Link AirPlusG+TM and other 802.11g
products. This compares favorably with 802.11b adapters
that offer 11Mbps speed, and with 802.11b+ adapters that
give 22Mbps transmission.
This enhanced speed and adoption of 2.4GHz frequency,
now available for public use in most countries, plus the
mobility and convenience inherent in a wireless LAN, make
this card an ideal solution for bandwidth intensive WLAN
applications.
Apart from the higher theoretical network data transfer speed
of 54Mbps for 802.11g against the 11Mbps for 802.11b, the
DWL-G520+ also delivers a much faster data transmission
than other wireless LAN adapters. In a typical working
environment with multiple users accessing the network at the
same time, the DWL-G520+ operates at 10 times the speed
of a normal 802.11b wireless LAN adapter, which is made
possible by means of a turbo engine driver supplied with this
card.
Like the 802.11b and 802.11b+ adapters, the DWL-G520+
uses a single 2.4GHz wireless frequency, eliminating the
complexity of dualband networking. 802.11g's compatibility
with existing wireless LAN standards means that you do not
need to change your entire network to maintain connectivity.
Easy Migration to Higher Bandwidth
By maintaining compatibility with your existing wireless
network equipment, this adapter lets you upgrade to a higher
speed at the pace you want. The DWL-G520+ and other
802.11g standard devices can be gradually added to your
network, while the rest of your older network remains
perfectly connected.
Advanced Security
In addition to offering faster data transfer speeds, this card
also provides the newest, strongest, most advanced security
features available today. For home users that do not
incorporate a radius server in their networks, security is
provided in a convenient, automatic way (when used in
conjunction with other 802.11g products). No longer will you
have to frequently input a new WEP key to execute security
operations. With the DWL-G520+, you will automatically
receive a new key every time you connect, doing away with
the inconvenience of manual WEP key input. The DWLG520+
provides a stronger network security with 64, 128 and
256-bit WEP data encryption.

System Requirements for Configuration:
A desktop computer with an available 32-bit PCI slot
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows 98SE
At least 32 MB of memory and a 300 MHz processor
An 802.11g or 802.11b Access Point (for Infrastructure mode),
or another 802.11g or 802.11b wireless adapter (for Ad-Hoc,
peer-to-peer networking mode.)

Introduction
The D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G+ DWL-G520+ Wireless PCI Adapter is a 802.11g highperformance,
wireless adapter that supports high-speed wireless networking at home, at
work or in public places.
Unlike most network cards, the DWL-G520+ provides data transfers at up to 8X (compared
to the standard 11 Mbps) when used with other D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G+ products. The
802.11g standard is backwards compatible with 802.11b products.This means that you
do not need to change your entire network to maintain connectivity. You may sacrifice
some of 802.11g’s speed when you mix 802.11b and 802.11g devices, but you will not
lose the ability to communicate when you incorporate the 802.11g standard into your
802.11b network. You may choose to slowly change your network by gradually replacing
the 802.11b devices with 802.11g devices .
In addition to offering faster data transfer speeds when used with other 802.11g products,
the DWL-G520+ has the newest, strongest, most advanced security features available
today. When used with other 802.11g WPA (WiFi Protected Access) and 802.1x
compatible products in a network with a radius server, the security features include:
WPA*: A new security feature, Wi-Fi Protected Access authorizes and identifies users
based on a secret key that changes automatically at a regular interval.
WPA uses TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) to change the temporal
key every 10,000 packets (a packet is a kind of message transmitted over a
network.) This insures much greater security than the standard WEP security.
(By contrast, the older WEP encryption required the keys to be changed
manually.)
802.1x*:Authentication is a first line of defense against intrusion. In the Authentication
process the server verifies the identity of the client attempting to connect to the
network. Unfamiliar clients would be denied access.

Insert the D-Link CD-ROM Into Your
Computer
Turn on the computer and
Insert the D- Link Xtreme G+ DWL-G520+
Driver CD in the CD-ROM drive.
The step-by-step instructions that follow are shown in
Windows XP. The steps and screens are similar for
the other Windows operating systems
If the CD Autorun function
does not automatically start
on your computer , type
“D:\Setup.exe.” If it does
start, proceed to the next
screen.

Installing the DWL-G520+ Wireless PCI
Adapter in Your Computer
A. Make sure to turn off your computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the back cover of the computer.
B. Install the DWL-G520+ carefully and firmly seat it into an available PCI slot
(which is usually “white” or “cream” colored).
C. Secure the DWL-G520+ back panel shield with a screw.
D. Replace the computer’s cover.
E. Place the computer back in its normal position.
F. Attach the DWL-G520+’s antenna to the socket on the back panel shield.

Restart Your Computer
When you restart your computer
this Found New Hardware
Wizard (Windows XP) screen
will appear:

Your Installation is Complete!
After you’ve continued in Windows 2000, ME, or 98SE, the D-Link AirPlus Xtreme
G+ DWL-G520+ Configuration Utility will automatically start and the utility icon
will appear in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop screen (systray). If this
icon appears GREEN, then you have successfully installed the DWL-G520+,
are connected to a wireless network and are ready to communicate!
