The driver support Linux kernel 2.4.7 later. We had tested it
on the environments below.
. Red Hat v6.2 (update kernel to 2.4.7)
. Red Hat v7.0 (update kernel to 2.4.7)
. Red Hat v7.1 (kernel 2.4.7)
. Red Hat v7.2 (kernel 2.4.7-10)
. Red Hat v7.3 (kernel 2.4.18-3)
. Red Hat v8.0 (kernel 2.4.18-14)
Quick Install
=============
Install linux driver as following command:
1. make all
2. insmod dl2k.o
3. ifconfig eth0 up 10.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.0.0.0
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^\ ^^^^^^^^ IP NETMASK
Now eth0 should active, you can test it by "ping" or get more information by
"ifconfig". If tested ok, continue the next step.
4. cp dl2k.o /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net

Twisted-pair Copper Gigabit Server Card
The DGE-550T Gigabit PCI card is a high-bandwidth network adapter designed for server connection over the inexpensive
twisted-pair copper wires. At 2000Mbps full-duplex speed, this card provides very high dedicated bandwidth capacity for
power servers directly attached to Gigabit switches. With advanced functions like VLAN, Flow Control, Traffic Prioritization
and others, this Gigabit card brings you a high level of performance and security, allowing you to run bandwidth-intensive
applications like multimedia, video conference and IP telephony.
Gigabit Over Twisted-pair
High Performance
Flow Control for Secure Transmission
The DGE-550T offers an inexpensive alternative solution
to fiber-optic Gigabit. Using your existing low-cost Cat. 5
copper twisted-pair wires as the transmission media, this
card allows you to instantly upgrade your departmental
servers to Gigabit capability without having to install new,
expensive fiber cables.
Using the bus master mode with direct DMA paths, the
DGE-550T provides high throughput between the server
host and the card, bypass the host's memory buffer. The
card operates in 32-bit 33MHz PCI bus as well as in the
upcoming 64-bit 66MHz PCI bus, auto-configuring
according to the different data path widths to guarantee
compatibility with various server configurations. To
enhance performance, the card provides large, independent
receive/transmit FIFO, jumbo frame support and adaptive
Inter-Frame Spacing (IFS) capacity.
With IEEE 802.3x flow control support, your server is
protected against possible data loss during transmission on
the network. Connected to a Gigabit switch that supports
flow control, the card receives signals from the switch
regarding buffer overrun during peak usage periods. When
the switch signals a buffer run situation, the card delays
transmission until the switch is ready again to accept new
data.
Priority Queues
VLAN to Improve Performance and Security
Easy Migration Through 10/100/1000Mbps
Support
This function allows your server to run Voice over IP
(VoIP) telephony, video-conference and other multimedia
applications where traffice is queued as critical and noncritical,
and network packets are delivered at best-effort
speeds.
The card supports IEEE 802.1Q multiple Virtual LAN,
allowing you to segment the network to smaller domains
to improve performance and security. Dissemination of
broadcast and unnecessary computer-to-computer packets
can be restricted to reduce extraneous traffic. The card
provides a VLAN table for the following functions:
filtering packets by recognizing VLAN Tags, stripping
VLAN Tags on receive, and inserting VLAN Tags on
transmit.
The card supports three network speeds, 10Mbps,
100Mbps and 1000Mbps, allowing you to run in Fast
Ethernet now, and migrate to Gigabit anytime later without
having to change neither network adapters nor network
cables. The card auto-senses and auto-negotiates to use
the best network speed. Full/half duplex is supported for
10Mbps and 100Mbps, while full duplex is supported for
the Gigabit speed.

Observations
Introduction
Thank you for choosing D-Link DGE-550T, the value leader
among dual-speed adapters for PCI Bus personal computers.
This introduction gives a general description of the newer
networking technologies found on the DGE-550T.
The DGE-550T provides the bandwidth capability to
support high-end servers and workstations. With Autonegotiation,
this card can run on three different speeds:
10/100Mbps, both half- and full-duplex, and 1000Mbps at
full duplex. When running at 1000Mbps, it provides a
network throughput of 2Gbps in full-duplex mode.
The card supports IEEE 802.1p Traffic Prioritization for
time-sensitive and mission-critical traffic. With IEEE
802.1Q multiple VLAN support, it provides VLAN tables
that can filter packets by recognized VLAN tags, strip
VLAN tags when received, and insert VLAN tags when
transmitted. VLANs can increase the efficiency and provide
extra security of your network.
The DGE-550T provides IEEE802.3x Flow Control
Enhancements, which are needed for a network adapter to
function with a switch. In full-duplex mode, MAC
implements the PAUSE control function. This means when
a switch is connected in full-duplex mode and it senses that
its buffer will overflow in the near future, the switch will
transmit one standard Ethernet packet that causes the
DGE-550T to pause for a period, thus avoiding internal
buffer overflow and packet loss.
The NIC enables simple, scalable network migration,
providing the benefit of Gigabit Ethernet networking with
the familiarity of Ethernet.
Features
Designed for versatility and performance, the DGE-550T
Adapter provides the following:
• Operability in both 32-bit, 33 MHz and 64-bit, 66 MHz
slot servers
