Introduction
The RocketLinx ES8510 and the RocketLinx ES8510-XT are managed industrial
Ethernet switches that are equipped with seven 10/100TX ports and three combo
ports. The combo ports provide three gigabit copper RJ45 ports (10Base-T,
100Base-TX and 1000Base-TX) and three gigabit SFP ports (100Base-FX and
1000Base-SX/LX). The embedded software supports full Layer 2 networking features.
In addition, it provides ring redundancy, network control, security, and alert features.
The RocketLinx ES8510 and RocketLinx ES8510-XT are referred to as the RocketLinx
ES8510 unless there is a difference between the models. The RocketLinx ES8510
also supports an RS-232 console interface for out of band management. The
RocketLinx ES8510 has a rugged aluminum housing and was designed for industrial
environments. The RocketLinx ES8510 provides a wide operating temperature and
the RocketLinx ES8510-XT is NEMA TS2 certified and provides operating temperature.

Installation Overview
The RocketLinx ES8510 User Guide on the CD provides detailed installation
procedures for the following steps.
1. Mount the RocketLinx ES8510 to the DIN rail using the clip on the back of the unit
or use the wall mounting plate.
2. Connect power to the RocketLinx ES8510. Remember to unplug the power
terminal block before making wire connections; otherwise the screwdriver can
inadvertently short the terminal connections to the grounded enclosure.
PW 1 and PW 2 support power redundancy and polarity reverse protection
functions. Positive and negative power system inputs are both accepted, but PW 1
and PW 2 must apply the same mode.
If both power inputs are connected, the RocketLinx
ES8510 will be powered from the highest connected
voltage. The unit will signal an alarm for loss of
power in either PW 1 or PW 2.
a. Make sure the power terminal block is unplugged.
b. Insert the wires from the power supply into the terminal block connector contacts.
c. Tighten the wire-clamp screws to prevent DC wires from becoming loose.
The PW1/PW2 LED turns red during the boot cycle and turns green when the unit is
ready. The recommended working voltage is DC12~48V.
3. Connect a standard Ethernet cable between the 10/100M Ethernet port (auto
MDI/MDIX) on the RocketLinx ES8510 and the network nodes.
4. Connect the appropriate network cable between the gigabit TX ports (auto
MDI/MDIX) on the RocketLinx ES8510 and the network.
5. Optionally, connect the SFP transceivers. Comtrol
recommends using approved SFP mini GBIC
transceiver. Cross-connect the transmit channel at
each end to the receive channel at the opposite end
as illustrated in the figure below.
6. If you need to connect the Digital Input or Relay Output, refer to the wiring method
in the RocketLinx ES8510 User Guide.
