Observations
Installing the FMHCF56I Conexant Windows 2000 Modem Driver
1. Start Windows 2000 with the modem installed into one of the computer’s PCI slots.
2. Windows should detect the PCI Simple Communications Controller.
3. Click on the Next button when presented with the first screen.
4. Ensure Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) is selected and then click on the Next button:
5. Ensure that Specify a location is selected and click on the Next button.
6a. Select the drive and directory or
6b. Click the Browse button to browse your computer for the location of the drivers.
Once you find the correct drive and directory containing the drivers, click on the Open button.
7. After selecting the correct location of the drivers, click on the OK button.
8. Click on the Next button whick will display a screen informing you of the status of the Drivers Digital signature.
Note: If the drivers provided contain a Microsoft digital signature you will not be presented with this screen.
As the time of this writing, the drivers do not contain a Microsoft digital signature, but have been tested and operate correctly.
9. Click on the Yes button to start the driver installation.
10. Click on the Finish button to complete the modem driver installation. After clicking on Finish a Modem Audio device will be detected and installed automatically.
Removing the FMHCF56I Conexant Windows 2000 Modem Driver
1. Start the Control Panel
2. Click on the Start Button and then Settings and then click on Control Panel to start the Control Panel.
3. Double Click on Add/Remove Hardware.
4. Click on the Next button.
5. Select Uninstall/Unplug a device and click on the Next button.
6. Select Uninstall a device and click on the Next button.
7. You will now need to scroll down the list of devices to select the device you want to remove.
8. Select the Conexant HCF 56K Speakerphone PCI Modem and click on the Next button.
9. Select Yes, I want to uninstall the device and click on the Next button.
10. Click on the Finish button to complete the driver removal.
Currently the Conexant uninstall feature is not completely operational.
You must manually delete the following files:
DIRECTORY FILENAME
C:\WINNT\INF OEMxx.INF (xx will be replaced with a numeric value. Ex. OEM2.INF)
Note: You will need to open the OEMxx.INF files in the INF directory to find the Conexant Modem driver. A Conexant copyright can be seen at the top of the inf file.

After deleting the above two files, shut down Windows 2000 and remove the modem from the PCI slot or restart to let Windows redetect the modem to allow to you to either reinstall the driver or install an updated driver.
