Installation of the modem V9x HAM under Mandrake 9.2
Requirements:
- Intel driver for the modem HAM (Intel–V92ham-453.tgz). Look at
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/resources.html for downloading.
- Login as root and work with console
- You have to install the packages kernel-source and kdenetwork-kppp-3.1.3-
37mdk for KPPP
Installation:
1. Copy the driver into the directory /usr/src.
2. Go into this directory /usr/src
3. Unzipped the driver with the command tar – xzvf [archivename].tgz
4. This will create the a new directory called Intel… (e.g. Intel-v92ham-453)
5. Change into this directory.
6. Set the commands
make clean
make ham
make install
If you get the error “make command not found” install the kernel-sources!
7. Now you can find the device ham at /dev. The driver also creates a link from
/dev/modem to /dev/ham for using KPPP.
Check the functionality:
1. MINICOM:
minicom is not a package of the standard installation and has to be installed
additional. Start the program with the command minicom –s. With the arrow
keys and the return taste go to “serial port setup” and change the entry for A
into /dev/modem and for E into 115200 8 n 1 . Change these settings with
“save setup as dfl” and click on “exit”. Now the terminal program is starting and
you can communicate with modem with at commands. Check the country
settings with ATI12 and change it with the command AT+GCI=xx (xx= B4 for
UK, 7B for the Netherlands, 3D for France, B5 for USA).
Now try to make a connection with the command ATDT[phone number of a
provider][enter].
2. KPPP connection:
Configure the modem with drake connect. Check the modem init. It should be
AT&F. For more information look at your distribution manual.

Installation of the modem V9x HAM under SuSE 9.0 (Kernel 2.4.21):
Requirements:
- Do not use the delivered driver 4.51 (in SuSE 9.0) for this modem
- Intel driver for the modem ham (Intel–v92ham-453.tgz). Look at
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/resources.html for downloading.
- Install the package kernel-source
- Install the package minicom for testing the modem
- Log in as root
Installation:
1. Delete the delivered driver of SuSE 9.0 if it is installed (Delete the
software package under hardware – modem)
2. Copy the driver into the directory /usr/src.
3. Go into this directory /usr/src

2. Kinternet/wvdial connection:
Configure the modem with YAST. It is important to choose “others (not
recognized)” because otherwise SuSE wants to install the package for the
4.51 driver if you choose V9x HAM modem. Configure this entry “others” with
the baud rate 115200 and the Init1 AT&F. Then configure your provider. Now
the Internet connection should function.

Installation Instructions
The driver can only be installed, if the PCI-Card is recognized as a new hardware, do not update existing drivers
with the instruction "Update driver".
Existing drivers has to be de-installed. De-install the device at the device manager (Control panel – System). If
there is a new operating system and no driver installed, the card should be detected automatically at the device
manager (Control panel – System) under "Others / unknown components / devices" as "PCI Communication
Device (simple)".

1. Extract the driver into a temporary directory.

2. De-install the old driver (see also de-installation of the driver after this paragraph) or delete, after
a new installation of the operating system, the entry for the modem ("PCI Communication
Device") at the device manager (start – settings – control panel – system – device manager)
under "Other components".

3. Reboot your PC.

4. "New Hardware found: "PCI Communication Device (simple)". The assistant for searching new
hardware will be started. Continue with "Next".

5. Hardware driver installation. The assistant will finish the installation of the new device.

Choose "Search the best driver for your device (recommended)" and continue with "Next".

6. Choose "set other sources" at the next window and continue with "Next".

7. "Copy the manufacturer file from:" Specify either the directory, where you have extracted the
driver or search the position with the option "search". Important is, that you have to give the
complete path. Confirm this window with "Next".

8. You should find the file: ". . .ctxh51.inf". Confirm with "Next".

9. Complete the assistant.

The software for this device has been installed.
Click the button "Finish".

10. The modem should be available at the control panel under telephone- and modem-options.

Voice Answering Machine Setup for the Ambient Fax Voice Modem

Microsoft Phone?
1. On the Desktop, click on Start/Settings/Control Panel.
2. Double Click on the Multimedia Icon
3. In the Preferred Device List Box for both Playback and Record, select Voice Modem Wave #00 Handset.
4. Set Preferred quality to Answering Machine Quality, and hit the Customize button.
5. Set the format to Microsoft IMA ADPCM and click on OK.
6. Check the Use preferred devices only checkbox at the bottom of the panel.
7. At the top of this Multimedia Properties panel, click on the Advanced tab.
8. Click on the + next to Audio Devices.
9. Highlight (click on once) Audio for Ambient Voice Serial Wave Device.
10. Click the Properties button at the bottom.
11. Remove the check in the Do not map through this device checkbox and click on the Use audio features on this device selection.
12. OK on all to exit.
13. Close the Control Panel.

1. Click on Setup/Modem Setup
2. Verify that Modem is Ambient Data Fax Voice Modem. If not, make that selection. Close this setup box. This will determine the correct parameters for the answering machine functionality.
3. Click on Receive.
4. Under Receive options, select Voice/Fax/Data to utilize all of the features of the modem.
5. Close the setup.

Installation Instructions

"Specify position". At this point you have to specify either the directory, where you have
extracted the driver or search the position with the option "search". Important is, that you have
given the complete path. Confirm this window with "Next".

8. "Search the driver file for the following device: Creatix V9X HAM WDM Modem driver".
Driverposition: . . . \CtxH21.inf. Continue with "Next".

9. "Creatix V9X HAM WDM Modem driver. New Hardware component has been installed." Continue
with "Finish".

10. "New Hardware component found : Modem Device!"

11. The Hardware assistant will be started again. Same procedure as point 6 and 7 describes.

12. "The driver file for the following device will be searching: Creatix V.90 HAM Data Fax Modem".
Driverposition: . . .\CtxH22.inf. Continue with "Next".

13. "Creatix V9X HAM Data Fax Modem. New Hardware component has been installed". Continue
with "Finish".

14. Now an additional window of the Creatix V9X HAM WDM Modem driver opens up for choosing
the country settings "International settings". Choose the country where you use the modem and
confirm with "Ok".

15. Now the installation is finished and the modem should show up at the control panel. The country
settings can be changed under "Creatix WDM Modem Driver" at the control panel.

Installation of Creatix V.90 HAM in Windows NT 4.0
1. Extract the file HAM-NT-Treiberneu.zip in a temporary directory.

2. Start the program "setup.exe" in this directory after extracting the file.

3. Message „Installation wird vorbereitet" (Preparing of installation)

4. Message „Dateien werden kopiert, das kann einen Moment dauern" (copying
files )

5. Message „Neues Modem installieren" (install new modem). Click at „weiter"
(forward)

6. Now the system makes the automatically recognizing of modems. It checks all
COM-Ports.

7. After this there is a message that the HaM modem is recognized at Com x.
Click at „weiter" (forward)

8. Now there is the message that you can finished the driver installation. Click at
"Fertig stellen" (Finnishing).

9. After this you should click at finish again.

10. After this the modem is installed.

For using the dial up network you must configure the modem in RAS Service.

For uninstall the modem you must delete the modem in control panel – modems and
uninstall the installation software in control panel software.

8. Completion of the assistant. The software for the following hardware has been installed: Creatix
V9X HAM Data Fax Modem. "Finish".

9. The modem should be available at the control panel (printer and hardware) under telephone- and
modem-options.

De-installation of the driver 4.47.2 under Windows XP

1. De-install (right mouse button) at the device manager (start – settings – control panel – system –
hardware – device manager [classic view] respectively start – control panel – performance and
service – system – hardware – device manager[category view]) the entry

2. Delete in the hidden directory \WINDOWS\INF the file oem*.inf (the * stand for a number, which
describes the modem). The oem-files can be opened with a double click.
The file looks in the beginning as follows:

3. Control in the registration file (start – run – regedit) if the following entries are still existing (only
this entries) and delete them.

4. Now the driver should be deleted and the modem can be removed after shutting down the
system, respectively the driver can be installed after a restart.
