Operating the ISDN a/b Terminal adapter The ISDN a/b Terminal Adapter allows the operation of two analog terminals (e.g. an analog fax, modem or analog telephone answering machine) on the basic ISDN connection. The supported D-channel protocol is EDSS1 (Euro ISDN). The apparatus has the following connections and display elements: • Connection for external power supply • ISDN S0 connection (RJ45 socket) • Analog connection 1 (RJ11 socket) • Analog connection 2 (RJ11 socket) • LED 1: Power on • LED 2: S0 terminal activated • LED 3: Channel 1 active • LED 4: Channel 2 active
Preparing the appliance In order to be able to direct incoming calls specifically to the analog channels, the corresponding call numbers must first be programmed for these. With your basic Euro-ISDN connection, you will receive up to twelve different call numbers from Telekom. You can allocate one of these numbers to each analog channel as a call receiving number in order to direct calls specifically to the channels of the a/b adapter. If, for example, you operate an analog fax machine on one of the two channels, then you give your callers the numbers programmed on this channel. In addition, a calling party number can be programmed for each analog channel which is automatically displayed on the correspondingly equipped remote stations. (This entry is optional).
Programming of numbers • Connect the designated plug of the network appliance with the corresponding socket of the a/b adapter and then plug the power unit into the 230 V socket. The Power LED of the a/b adapter must then be lit up. • Connect an analog terminal, e.g. an analog modem, with the analog channel of the a/b adapter. Set the terminal to audio signalling. (With a modem or a fax machine, care should be taken that the appliance should not be waiting for the dialling tone).
