1. Driver Introduction
This guide describes the details for installing and configuring the ITeX ADSL/ATM driver to
support Linux systems. RFC 2516 PPP over Ethernet support for Linux Kernel 2.4.12 is
described in this guide. For other protocols refer to the corresponding user guide provided by
ITeX.
ITeX Apollo 3 ADSL PCI modem is modeled as a Linux ATM card. It comes with a fully
functional ATM/ADSL driver, which is distributed as a binary-only application. This allows the
support of a wide range of protocols like RFC 2684, Classic IP over ATM, PPPoA and PPPoE
without trouble of maintaining source code. Currently ITeX ATM driver does not support Linux
Hotplugging package.
ITeX driver version supported:
2.2.7.ITEXPC86.0006
2 PPP over Ethernet
2.1 Downloading
General
You will need to download several packages before start:
RedHat Linux OS Release 7.1.
ITeX ATM/ADSL driver for Apollo 3 card (itex1577-2.4.12.o).
Linux ATM driver version 0.78 or later (atm-0.78.tar.gz).
Linux kernel 2.4.12
A number of these you will have to patch and/or compile yourself.
* Warning: PPPoA and PPPoE cannot be supported simultaneously in one kernel at this
moment. See the Patching the kernel section for details. Strongly recommend to re-compile
the application packages every time you rebuild and load the new kernel.
If your provider uses PPPoE, you will need:
Linux kernel 2.4.12.
1. Linux-2.4.12.tar.gz
PPPoE aware PPP daemon.
1. ppp-2.4.1-pppoe2.tgz
2. libpppoe.c
* Note: The default PPP package wont work. A server tag error will
be received every time PPPoE client dials into the server. This
issue happens with the packet verification function of libpppoe.c
file in PPPoE module. Replacing this file with ITeX ones will solve
this bug.

Driver Introduction
The ITeX Apollo 3 ADSL PCI modem is modeled as a Linux ATM card. It comes with a
fully functional ATM/ADSL driver, which is distributed as a binary-only application.
This allows its use for a wide range of protocols.
This guide describes the procedure to install and setup the Apollo 3 ADSL modem with
the Linux operating system. It is written to support the Red Hat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.16)
version of the operating system. Also included in this users guide are the procedures to
install and setup various client applications, specifically RFC2648, RFC2364 (PPPoA)
and RFC2516 (PPPoE).
ITeX Linux driver version for this manual: 2.2.7.ITEXPC86.0006.
