Mylex FlashPoint PCI SCSI Host Adapter Driver
For DOS/WINDOWS 3.X
I. Introduction
===============
This README file contains compressed installation instructions and
notes for the Mylex FlashPoint PCI DOS/Windows 3.X device driver.
II. Installation
================
There are six files (FLASHPT.SYS, BTMDISK.SYS, BTCDROM.SYS, BTFDISK.EXE,
WINASPI.DLL and VASPID.386 ) that support DOS V3.3x or above, and
Windows V3.x.
1) FLASHPT.SYS Version 3.03
FLASHPT.SYS is the Mylex DOS Device Manager that supports ASPI (Advanced
SCSI Programming Interface). DOS application programs use the ASPI
DOS Manager to communicate with the SCSI host adapter and allows access
to additional SCSI devices connected to the host adapter.
Configuring the FLASHPT.SYS DOS Device Manager:
The DOS ASPI manager has several new features along with the WIN-ASPI
interface module. Most of these features are related to command line
switches at install (boot) time. Along with improvements in the existing
switches, additional switches are present.
In order for the Mylex ASPI DOS Manager to be loaded whenever
the system is booted, the CONFIG.SYS file must contain the "DEVICE="
command.
The format is as follows:
DEVICE = [drive:\path]FLASHPT.SYS [optional switches]
Example of CONFIG.SYS:
DEVICE = C:\FLASHPNT\FLASHPT.SYS /D
2) BTMDISK.SYS Version 4.60e
In order for the Mylex Extended Disk Driver to be loaded whenever
the system is booted, the CONFIG.SYS file must contain the "DEVICE="
command and it must be loaded after the loading of ASPI DOS Manager.
The format is as follows:
DEVICE = [drive:\path]BTMDISK.SYS [optional switches]
Example of CONFIG.SYS:
DEVICE = C:\FLASHPNT\FLASHPT.SYS /D
DEVICE = C:\FLASHPNT\BTMDISK.SYS /D
BTMDISK.SYS Extented Hard Disk Driver can support more than one
Mylex SCSI host adapter per system.
3) BTCDROM.SYS Version 3.40g
Mylex SCSI CD-ROM device driver is compatible with Microsoft CD-ROM
Extension V2.21 and later.

BusLogic FlashPoint PCI SCSI Host Adapter Driver
For Microsoft Windows 95
Version 5.02
I. Introduction
===============
This README file contains compressed installation instructions and
notes on configuring tunable paramenters for the BusLogic FlashPoint
Windows 95 device driver. For more detailed installation instructions
and other information, please refer to the manual included with the
software package.
II. Installation
================
This installation procedure describes the steps involved in installing
the FlashPoint protected-mode driver under Windows 95.
1. Use the FlashPoint DOS ASPI driver, FLASHPT.SYS, to do the
initial portion of Win95 install from CDROM. After the system
prompts you to reboot, it continues through the rest of Win95
installation normally using only the BIOS. At no point during
the install will you be prompted to provide the FlashPoint device
driver.
2. When the installation is finished and the system is rebooted
for the first time, a warning message appears noting that the
system is not configured for optimal performance.
3. Press the "Details" button. (The message indicates that all
devices are running in MS-DOS compatibility mode. This is because
all I/O requests are still routed through the BIOS interface and
the FlashPoint protected-mode driver has not yet been installed.)
4. Click the Device Manager button. Once in the Device Manager, the
following is displayed:
? Other Devices
5. Click on "? Other Devices", then on "PCI SCSI Bus Controller".
6. Choose "Change Driver", "Other Devices", "Unknown Devices", and
"Have Disk" options, respectively. You will be prompted to
insert the the driver diskette for the unrecognized card.
7. Place the Device Drivers diskette containing the FlashPoint
Windows 95 driver in drive A:. (The diskette contains two files --
FLASHPT.MPD and FLASHPT.INF.)
8. After providing the diskette containing the driver, a popup message
displays, stating:
BusLogic FlashPoint PCI SCSI Adapter Has a ROM
Windows cannot determine whether it can remove this
device safely. To try removing this device, make sure
you have closed all your documents and programs and
then click Test.
If the test is successful, you can probably remove this
device safely. If you encounter problems, you cannot remove
this device safely while Windows is running.

NT 4.0 include Flashpoint Family support on the distribution
CD-ROM. The following steps are needed only if you cannot install with
the built in driver.
1. Copy four files - FLASHPNT.SYS, FLASHPNT.TAG, OEMSETUP.INF, and
TXTSETUP.OEM to a blank formatted diskette to create a BusLogic
Windows NT FlashPoint diskette.
2. Boot from the Windows NT setup boot diskette and insert setup
disk #2 when prompted.
3. Choose CUSTOM Setup (not Express Setup).
4. You may then choose to bypass Mass Storage detection (not
mandatory but quicker).
5. When prompted, choose S to specify additional device.
6. Choose "Other (Requires disk provided by a hardware manufacturer)"
option.
7. Insert the BusLogic FlashPoint Device Drivers diskette into
drive A:.
8. Select "Buslogic FlashPoint PCI SCSI Host Adapter".
9. The system will load the FlashPoint device driver and indicate
that it has recognized a FlashPoint PCI SCSI Host Adapter in your
computer. Press enter to continue with the rest of Windows NT 3.5x
installation.
III. Upgrading an existing system
================================
NT 4.0 includes Flashpoint Family support on the distribution
CD-ROM. The following steps are needed only if you have a problem with
the built in driver.
This procedure does is a very wordy way of getting Flashpnt.sys to
(Boot device):\WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS for NT 3.51 or
(Boot device):\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS for NT 4.0
Making a backup of the Original Flashpnt.sys would be the safest thing
to do since this procedure over writes the original file.
