Introduction
------------

ADVDISK is an ASPI Disk Driver for MS-DOS. It is an installable
device driver that is loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file. To install,
copy ADVDISK.EXE to your boot drive (C:) and add this line to
CONFIG.SYS:

DEVICE = C:\ADVDISK.EXE

Current version is 3.04, which supports 512 byte, 1024 byte and
2048 byte sectors. The Advdisk partitions are compatible with
NT 4.0 format. WIN 95 can also read ADVDISK partitioned disks.
However, a WIN 95 partitioned disk cannot be recognized by ADVDISK.

This version also supports SuperFloppy format media. It means that
ADVDISK can recognize SuperFloppy media formatted by WIN95, NT, and
OS/2, and reversely other OS can recognize the ADVDISK's formatted
media too. ADVDISK provides its own utility which can format a media
as SuperFloppy media. See command line option "FORMAT" for details.

Command line options
--------------------

ADVDISK is actually two components: the resident driver (installed
in CONFIG.SYS) and the executable (run from the DOS command line).
Each component has its own set of command-line options.

The resident driver recognizes these options:

/P
The driver will pause after loading.

/X=h,i
ADVDISK will, by default, attempt to use all fixed, removable, and
magneto-optical disk drives it finds on the SCSI bus. If a
particular device is being used by another driver, add this
exclude option to the command line, and ADVDISK will not control
the device. For example:

DEVICE = C:\ADVDISK.EXE /X=0,3

will exclude the device on host 0 with device ID 3 from control.

/R=n
ADVDISK will only reserve one drive letter for each REMOVABLE
device. Under most circumstances, this is sufficient. However,
if the medium used by this device has more than one partition
on it, ADVDISK will need to reserve more drive letters for each
device. For example, if using a device with two partitions, use:

DEVICE = C:\ADVDISK.EXE /R=2

If ADVDISK does not detect as many partitions on the medium as
specified to reserve, it will report "drive not ready" for the
undefined partitions.

The executable component of ADVDISK has its own set of command-line
options.

/? or /H
Displays a usage screen detailing all the command-line options
available.
MAP
ADVDISK will display a map, showing which SCSI devices are
associated with DOS drive letters, and their lock status.

ASC.SYS AdvanSys FAST/ULTRA SCSI Adapter Win2K driver
Creating the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette
====================================================

NOTE: You can skip this step if you have the AdvanSys release
diskette. It is already set up as a driver diskette to allow you
to install the AdvanSys driver.

To create a driver diskette for installing the AdvanSys Driver
to a new or existing Windows 2000 (Win2K) system, copy all of
the Win2K driver files (DISKW, TXTSETUP.OEM, ASC.INF, ASC.SYS)
to the top directory of a DOS formatted floppy diskette. Label
the diskette "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" and also record the
driver version number for future references.
New Windows 2000 Installation
=============================

During the text phase of the Windows 2000 setup, the setup program
will ask if you would like to install support for SCSI or RAID type
devices. Indicate Yes (by pressing the F6 key). The setup program
will then allow you to use a device support disk from a mass storage
device manufacturer (press the S key). When asked to insert a
manufacturer-supplied hardware support disk, insert the
"Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette. After the Windows 2000
setup has scanned for drivers, you will be able to select the
SCSI adapter you want to install.
Existing Windows 2000 installation
==================================

After you have physically install the Adapter into your computer,
turn on the computer. Windows 2000 will detect the new device
during startup. Use the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette
when prompted for drivers or drivers location.

Creating the "Windows NT Installation" Diskettes
================================================

Windows NT requires three installation diskettes as well as the
AdvanSys driver diskette described below. If you do not have these
three Windows NT installation diskettes they can be created from
DOS using WINNT.EXE or from Windows NT using WINNT32.EXE. These
commands can be found on the Windows NT installation CD.

DOS: WINNT.EXE /OX
WINDOWS NT: WINNT32.EXE /OX
Creating the "Windows NT AdvanSys Driver" Diskette
==================================================

NOTE: You can skip this step if you have the AdvanSys release
diskette. It is already set-up as a driver diskette to allow you
to install the AdvanSys driver using it.

To create a driver diskette for installing the AdvanSys Driver
to a new or existing Windows NT system, copy all of the Windows NT
release files (DISK1, TXTSETUP.OEM, OEMSETUP.INF, ASC.SYS) to the
top directory of a DOS formatted floppy diskette. Label the diskette
"Windows NT AdvanSys Driver" and also record the driver version number.
New Windows NT Installation
===========================

At the end of the diskette phase of a new Windows NT installation,
you will be asked whether you want to: "Specify Additional Driver".
Answer yes by selecting 'S' and list of drivers will be presented.
From this list select "Other". When asked to enter a diskette, insert
the "Windows NT AdvanSys Driver" diskette.

After the AdvanSys driver is found on the diskette, select its name.
The driver will then be loaded and will search for an AdvanSys SCSI
adapter installed in the system.

If an AdvanSys SCSI adapter is found and the driver is successfully
loaded, Windows NT will display a message indicating that the driver
was loaded. After this message is displayed, press "Enter" to continue
the installation.
Existing Windows NT installation
================================

Windows NT 3.51:

1. From the "Program Manager - Main" folder select the "Windows NT
Setup" icon.

2. Select "Options" and from the Options list select "Add/Remove
SCSI Adapters".

3. From the "Select SCSI Adapter Option" use the down arrow to move
to the end of the list and select "Other".

4. When prompted, insert the "Windows NT AdvanSys Driver" diskette.
The system must be rebooted for the change to take effect.

Windows NT 4.0:

1. Open the "My Computer" icon and then its "Control Panel" icon.

2. From the "Control Panel" select the "SCSI Adapters" icon.

3. Select the "Drivers" tab and then from the "Install Driver"
window press the "Have Disk" button.
