The following files on this disk support DOS 6.0 and above:
QL26ASPI.SYS - DOS SCSI Driver including ASPI support.
QL00CDRM.SYS - DOS Driver that allows support for CD-ROM devices.
INSTALL.BAT - This is the batch file you execute to install the
DOS Drivers.
README.TXT - This file.
Note: The remaining files in the root directory of this disk are
support files for the QLogic utilities.
Section 2 DOS Installation
---------------------------
2.0 Installing DOS Drivers Using the Setup Utility
The DOS software drivers can be installed manually or by
using the Setup Utility.
The Install utility, is a menu-based utility for installing and
configuring your SCSI, ASPI, and CD-ROM drivers. It automatically
updates your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files and creates a backup
copy of the original files with .OLD extension. Install runs under
version 6.0 or later of MS-DOS.
If you use the Setup program, you do not need to perform the
manual installation procedures in section 2.2
To use Setup, follow these steps.
1. Boot to DOS (not WinNT or Win9x).
2. Insert the QLogic diskette in an appropriate drive.
3. At the DOS prompt, type (drive letter):INSTALL followed by

4. Follow the screen prompts to access the README.TXT file or

5. The system prompts "Will you be connecting a CD-ROM to your
system". Click on YES if you are connecting a SCSI CD-ROM
to the QLogic SCSI adapter.
6. Follow the directions displayed on the screen to complete the
installation process.
7. Press the
software diskette from the drive AFTER you exit the program.

4. Creating the Driver Diskette
-------------------------------
Locate the driver you want on the QLogic website and click "Link to
driver." When prompted "What would you like to do with this file?"
choose "Save this program to disk", then specify a temporary location
on a hard drive. Insert a blank diskette in the diskette drive. Run
the self-extracting file you just downloaded specifying A:\ for
"Unzip To Folder:".

5.1 Fresh OS installation with the QLogic Controller as Boot

Perform the following steps to initially install Windows on the
SCSI drive (boot disk) attached to the QLA12160 controller.
1. Start Windows installation procedure using the Setup
diskettes or CD.
2. If you are booting from the CD, press F6 if you see the message

Section 2: Installation of Windows 9X/ME onto a SCSI disk
==========================================================
To initially install Windows 9X/ME on a SCSI disk and/or from
a CD-ROM attached to the QLogic PCI SCSI adapter:
2.1 For Windows 95 Retail Pack (General distribution, Build 950)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Install QLogic SCSI Adapter and attach SCSI device(s).
2. Install DOS onto system boot disk.
3. If installing from CD-ROM attached to QLogic adapter,
install QLogic DOS drivers for supporting CD-ROM device and
the MSCDEX.EXE driver. (Refer to the README file in the root
directory of the "QLogic Software Drivers" diskette).
4. Boot to DOS, loading CD-ROM driver, then run the Windows 95 SETUP
program from the CD.
5. Once Win95 is loaded and operational, open the "My Computer"
icon, then open the "Control Panel" icon.
6. From the Control Panel window, open the "System" icon and
select "Device Manager" tab.
7. Listed under "Other devices", select "PCI SCSI Bus Controller"
and click on "Properties".
8. Select the "Driver" tab and click on "Change Driver".
9. Select "SCSI controllers" and click on "OK".
10. Insert the "QLogic Software Drivers" diskette and click on "Have Disk".
11. Enter "A:\Win9x" for path to QLogic driver and click "OK".
12. Select "QLA12160 Ultra 160M PCI Dual SCSI Adapter" and click "OK".
13. Click "OK" again to proceed with installing miniport driver.
14. Click "Cancel" in the dialog box that may say, "Windows cannot
determine if it can remove this device safely" (DO NOT "Test").
CAUTION: Clicking "TEST" may cause the system to hang. However,
restarting the system will result in normal operation.

Section 2: Installation of Windows 9X/ME onto a SCSI disk
==========================================================
To initially install Windows 9X/ME on a SCSI disk and/or from
a CD-ROM attached to the QLogic PCI SCSI adapter:
