4. HELP AND DOCUMENTATION
Help and Documentation for installing, updating, removing and
configuring Digi RealPort for Windows can be found in the help
file, digirlpt.chm.
digirlpt.chm is part of the same software package as this file.
To view the help file, browse to the directory containing the
software package and double-click on the file, digirlpt.chm.
If a Digi RealPort device is installed, the help file can also
be accessed from the Device Manager, via the device's Multi-port
serial adapters property page.

This document describes the Digi RealPort Device Driver
for Microsoft Windows 98 and Me.

4. KNOWN LIMITATIONS
After installing a new device in Windows ME, please reboot
your system for the ports to become accessible.
The Device Manager incorrectly reports bogus resources for
each of the RealPort serial ports (see the Ports (COM & LPT)
category of the Device Manager). This is a limitation of the
operating system, which requires that serial ports are
associated with a physical address space, albeit phantom.
If you plan to use the RealPort driver with serial printers,
you may want to reboot the system after device installation or
after renaming ports to see the new ports listed in the Print
Spooler's list of available ports. This is a known limitation
of the Print Spooler, which does not detect changes in the
list of available ports automatically.
If you experience difficulties operating serial printers, try
enabling the option, "Complete write requests immediately."
A checkbox of the same name can be found in the port's Port
Properties dialog in the Device Manager.
5. INSTALLING THE REALPORT DRIVER
To install the driver, follow these steps:
o Close the Device Manager if it is running.
o Unzip the driver archive to a folder of your choice.
o Run DIGIRPCL.BAT to remove any previous INF file versions.

This driver package supports both SCSI Terminal Servers and EtherLite
Terminal Servers products from Digi International Inc.
Installation Instructions
-------------------------
1. Install your Terminal Server hardware as described in the accompanying
instruction booklet(s).
2. If you have installed no EtherLite units (i.e., you have installed
SCSI Terminal Servers), skip to step 4.
3. Set up an IP-address server on your network (if one is not
present already), and reserve an IP address for each EtherLite
unit. Detailed instructions for doing this can be found under
"Operating an EtherLite Port Server" in the Digi International
Help file (Digielst.HLP in the same directory as this README file).
4. Install and configure the software by running the SETUP.EXE
program in the same directory as this README file.

o Fixed buffered output capability (Bug ID 4261)
o Any attempt to connect to an inaccessible unit will result in a significant
non-paged pool memory leak over time. The fault appears to lie in a system
routine called during this process. Consequently, to minimize the leak,
initial attempts to connect to a unit and attempts to connect to a unit
which goes offline will timeout after two hours. Also, the interval
between retrying for an initial connection will grow from ten seconds to
two minutes within the first several minutes of driver startup. (Bug ID 3934)
KNOWN BUGS:
o Configuring units which are not physically accessible will precipitate
a memory leak in non-paged pool memory. This memory cannot be reclaimed
without rebooting your system.
o RAS will not work on MP systems.
