I nstalling DP-XXX into NDPS ( Novell Directory Print Services)
I nt roduct ion
Novell' Distributed Print ServicesTM (NDPSTM) is a product built on Novell's next generation
printing architecture that allows administrators to take advantage of built-in printer intelligence
to centrally manage network printing resources, improve network printing performance, and
reduce the hassles of network printing for end-users. The NDPS architecture was designed in
partnership with Hewlett-Packard Company and Xerox Corporation to leverage their expertise in
network printing
This document will guide you to setup a print server (DP-100/300) to work with NDPS under IP
protocol only environment.
Requirement :
1. You need a Win95/98 machine on the network with IPX/SPX protocol and Client for
Netware Networks (or Client32).
2. You must have supervisor/administrator access right on the Netware server.
3. In the following document, it is assumed that the settings in Novell Server are:
l Server Name = Allen
l Tree Name = D-Link
l Organization = TSD
l CN = Admin.TSD
These are examples only, your NDS will have a particular naming convention.
Procedure:
Step 1 . Create a NDPS Manager Object
1.1 Start your Novell Client under Windows95/98, and Login to Netware server as Admin.
1.2 Execute “Nw admn3 2 .exe” located in Allen/ SYS:\ Public\ Win3 2 .
1.3 Click the Tree, click the right button of mouse, and select “Create an NDPS Manager
object,”
1.4 Select NDPS Manager, then click “OK.”
1.5 Type a name in NDPS Manager Name (e.g., NDPS_Mgr). Browse the
“Resident Server and Database Volume” and assign the correct server and volume (that is,
“Resident Server= Allen.TSD”, “Database Volume= Allen_SYS.TSD” in this case).
Step 2 . Load NDPS Manager service in Netware
2.1 Type “NDPSM” on Netware Server’s console and select NDPS Manager object (e.g.,
NDPS_Mgr).
Note: To autolaod the NDPS Manager object, please add the following line to
the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
Load NDPSM NDPS_Mgr.TSD
Step 3. Create a “Printer Agent in the NDPS Manager Object” by using Netware admininstrator.
3.1. Double-click the NDPS Manager object.
3.2. Click the Printer Agent List, then click “New”.
3.3. Type NDPS Printer name (e.g., Printer_Agent), then select “Novell Printer Gateway” in
Gateway type.
3.5. Select the driver (or a compatible driver) of your printer.
3.6. Click “OK.”
3.7. Select Remote (LPR on IP) in the Connection Type.
3.8. Click “Next.”
3.9. Assign “Host Address” as the IP of Printer Server and “Printer Name” as the Port Name of
Printer Server.
3.10 Click “Finish.”
3.11 Select the driver (or a compatible driver) for Windows3.1, Windows95/98 and Windows
NT4, respectively.

Setting up Windows 95 TCP/IP Printing
The D-Link network print server can provide print services to TCP/IP
networks using the lpr/lpd network printing protocol. Most UNIX
systems are capable of supporting lpd, as is Windows NT.
D-Link’s LPR for TCP/IP Printing client gives Windows 95
workstations the ability to print using the lpr/lpd printing protocol.
Though it is possible to print to D-Link network print servers from
Windows 95, this capability is useful if primarily administer your
network from UNIX systems, or if you want to print from workstations
that are only accessible through IP routing.

Installing the LPR for TCP/IP Printing Client
Before your Windows 95 workstation can print using the lpr protocol,
you will need to install the D-Link client program, as follows:
1. Make sure that you have installed the TCP/IP protocol, and have
properly configured the Windows 95 TCP/IP settings. You can
install the protocol from the Network control panel if necessary.
2. From the Start menu, choose the Settings submenu, then the
Control Panel item within it. Windows will display the Control
Panel folder.
3. Double-click on the Network icon in the Control Panel folder.
4. Click on the Add... button on the Configuration tab.
5. Windows will ask for the type of component to add. Select
Client and click Add... to continue.
6. When Windows asks you to select a network client, click the
Have Disk... button.
7. Insert the LPR client diskette in your computer’s floppy drive (A:
or B:), enter the proper pathname, and click OK.
8. Select the LPR for TCP/IP Printing client and click OK.
9. Windows will copy the necessary files, and return to the
Network dialog. Click OK to let Windows restart.

Adding LPR Printer Ports
Once you have installed the client, and have enabled TCP/IP printing
for the D-Link network print servers, then you need to add a printer
port for each printer you will be printing to using the lpr/lpd
protocol. To add a printer port,
1. From the Start menu, choose the Settings submenu, then the
Control Panel item within it. Windows will display the Control
Panel folder.
2. Double-click on the Network icon in the Control Panel folder.
3. Choose the LPR for TCP/IP Printing client and click the
Properties button.

Setting up DP-100/300 in Novell NDS environment
The procedures below illustrate how the DP-100/300 can be set up using Clinet32 for Windows95/98 in
NetWare 5.x server.
Requirements
1. You need a Win95/98 machine which has installed Novell Client32 V3.x for Windows95/98 on the
network with SPX/IPX protocol
2. The PS Admin program will also run on this machine.
3. You must have supervisor (i.e. administrator) rights on the NetWare 5.x server.
Note. You can find Novell Client V3.x for Windows95/98 from Novell website. It is free.
STEPS
You will setup the print queue first. Then, you will add all the printers serviced by that print queue. And lastly,
you will let the print server know about the printers too.
1) Run PS Admin in Windows to make sure that the (new) print server DP-100/300 on your network can be
detected (that is, it can be seen in the program).
Note down the print server name and port name(the same as printer name), you will use this
name later. You may change your print server name by going to Configuration!
Server Device…>port settings…
For example, printer server name: DP300 and the port name: DP300-P1 is used throughout this document.
2) Run NWADMIN32 in the “F:\PUBLIC\WIN32 directory”.
You must login into the Netware server (NDS) with the administrator rights.
3) You will see a main menu of Available Options.
4) Select an available Organizational or Organizational Unit.
I select the Organization- TSD.
5) Create the Printer Server and Print Queue
You firstly click the available Organizational — TSD, then click “Tools”! “Print Services Quick Setup.
7) Please fill in the correct Print Server name, Printer Name and Queue Name. And select an available
volume,
6) Press “Create”.
7) Run PS Admin.
8) Highlight the print server and go to Configuration>NetWare Protocol…
9) Select the NDS Print Server tab and the item in the Serviced NDS tree by clicking on it. For example,
D-LINK.
10) Specifying the context where you created the print server in the Serviced NDS Context if it is different
from default. For example, O=TSD.
11) Press OK, then save the setting by going to Configuration>Save Configuration
12) The print server will reset itself and begin log-in NetWare 5.x server.
13) You must capture the print queue (on each workstation) before you do printing (from the workstation).
See the Novell document on how to capture the print queue.
