This package contains the HP Adjustment Pattern Utility. This utility is a single-pattern program that is designed to help improve the picture quality of HP or Compaq flat-panel monitors that are attached to computers using an analog video cable (VGA connector).
The HP Adjustment Pattern utility helps to improve the following image quality characteristics.
Fuzzy or unclear focus
Ghosting, streaking, or shadowing effects
Faint vertical bars
Thin, horizontal scrolling lines
Centering the picture
NOTE - There is no need to use the HP Adjustment Pattern utility if the attached monitor is connected to the computer using a digital video cable (white DVI connector on both ends of the cable).
To achieve optimal picture performance, HP recommends setting the operating system display mode to the native resolution for the flat-panel monitor, as follows.
14-inch and 15-inch flat-panel monitors should be set to a resolution of 1024 x 768.
17-inch, 18-inch, and 19-inch flat-panel monitors should be set to a resolution of 1280 x 1024.
20-inch and 21-inch flat-panel monitors should be set to a resolution of 1600 x 1200.

1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. Click Yes on the License Agreement screen to start the copying process. After copying is complete, click Finish to close the installation program.

If the target flat-panel monitor is using an analog video cable (blue VGA connector on computer end of the monitor cable), complete the following steps to use the utility:
1. Run the "HP Adjustment Pattern.exe" program.
2. Press the AUTO button on the flat-panel monitor or select the Auto-Adjustment function from the monitor on-screen display (OSD) menu. Both methods perform the same function.
