II. What is new in Windows XP?

In WinXP, when the system is booted up it automatically detects the modem and install the modem with in-build drivers when you upgrade your Operating System from Win9x, WinME or Win2K.
Allow about 30 seconds for the Windows XP to recognize what type of modem it is installed on the system. Once windows have finished installing the in-build drivers now you can proceed with the upgrade.
If your modem is not supported in Windows XP inbuild driver, then XP will ask for you to point windows to the drivers, which we recommend to Cancel. You need to contact the modem manufacturer for a WinXP suitable driver or you can use the WinXP driver that we provide for the HSF modem.

III. Instructions for Windows XP.

i. Upgrading the modem driver with the generic modem drivers using HXFSetup.exe.

1. Go to the folder where the modem driver is located, C:\WinXP HSF Generic Drivers, and double click on the HXFSetup.exe file.
2. By clicking on the HXFSetup.exe, you will be uninstalling and installing the HSF generic driver without your intervention if the driver has been digitally signed by Microsoft.
3. If during the installation process a window pop up indicating that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing just click on the Continue Anyway button to proceed with the installation.
4. Then the "Add New Hardware Wizard" window pops up to indicate that you need to direct it to the drivers.
5. Check on "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." and click on Next.
6. To direct windows to the drivers click on "Hard Disk" and go the folder where the drivers are located, C:\WinXP HSF Generic Drivers.
7. Again, the pop up window that indicates that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing just click on the Continue Anyway to finish installing the modem driver.
9. Allow a few seconds for the installation process and then click on Finish when ready.

Note: Once the upgrade with signed or unsigned driver is done the system needs to be re-booted in order for the modem to work properly.
Without the re-boot, the old driver will not be removed and this will cause the modem to use the old drivers and the new drivers, which causes problems.
This only affects the HSF modems.
