I. Upgrading your current modem drivers

i. Preparing your system for the upgrade process

1. If you are reading this document you have successfully downloaded the generic modem package from the Conexant website. If you have not already done so, extract all of the files in the downloaded WinZip file to a location on your hard drive.

*Note: On how to download the generic drivers please read the document "Instructions on how to download Generic Drivers".
It is recommended that you take note of the exact location of the extracted files, as you will be required to use this information during the installation process.

ii. Uninstalling and Installing the generic modem drivers

For Windows 9x (95 and 98):
1. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and open the Add/Remove Programs control panel.

2. Highlight Generic Soft 56k modem from the list and click on the Remove button.

*Note: If you are using Windows 9x and you do not see an entry for your modem, please verify that your modem is a Conexant HSF modem before you proceed.

3. Restart your computer.

For Windows 2000/ME:
1. Go to the location where the files were extracted. Here you will find a file called "Setup.exe".

2. Double click on the "Setup.exe" and this application will automatically uninstall and install the generic drivers that were downloaded from the Conexant website.

3. Allow some time for the process.

**Caution: Both Windows 2000/ME have the same "Setup.exe" application, make sure to be on the correct Operating System.

iii. Testing your modem

1. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and open the modem control panel (Phone and Modem options in ME & 2K)
-WIN98 Highlight the modem in the list, then click on the More Info button. Windows will communicate with the modem and return the results. If this test is successful then your modem is working and is ready to be used.
-WINME/2K Click on the modems tab, then click on the Properties button. Next select the diagnostics tab and click on the Query Modem button. Windows will communicate with the modem and return the results. If this test is successful then your modem is working and is ready to be used.
