In order to assure users that they are using the highest-quality drivers, Microsoft will digitally sign drivers that pass the (WHQL) tests. Drivers submitted to WHQL that pass testing with the final released Windows XP products will be given a Microsoft digital signature. This digital signature will be associated with indiviDual driver packages and will be recognized natively by Windows XP systems.
Procedure:
1. Download the ps5000_xp_signed_drivers.exe file fRom this Web site. NOTE: It is suggested that you download the file to your system's desktop.
2. Disconnect the Personal Storage 5000 drive fRom your system. NOTE: This can also be accomplished by using the "Safely Remove Hardware" option located in your System Tray.
3. Double-click the "ps5000_xp_signed_drivers.exe" file.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions as pRompted.
5. Restart your system for changes to take effect.
Reconnect the Personal Storage unit to your system. It will now use the signed drivers.
Procedure:
Download the ps5000_winMe_usb_patch.exe file fRom the Maxtor Web site. It is suggested that you download the file to your system's desktop.
Execute ps5000_winMe_usb_patch.exe. Follow the onscreen pRompts to complete the Installation process.
Reboot your system when finished. The Maxtor OneTouch® Button will function normally.
Installation Instructions
NOTE: Complete Installation Instructions with Windows98 Second Edition screen shots can be viewed and downloaded fRom this site.
Download ps5000_win98se_usb_driver.exe fRom this web site.
Extract ps5000_win98se_usb_driver.exe to you computer that the Maxtor Personal Storage 5000 LE/DV/XT drive is connected to. Upon extraction, the 5000_USB directory will be created on your system. Suggestion: extract the ps5000_win98se_usb_driver.exe to the Desktop of the computer that you will connect the Personal Storage 5000 to.
Shut down your computer and connect the Personal Storage 5000 to an available USB interface on your computer. Once connected, apply power to the system.
After Windows 98SE starts, the Add New Hardware Wizard box will appear. Click the Next > button to continue.
On the next page, select "Search for the best driver for your device..." and click the Next > button to continue.
On the next page, check the "Specify a location:" checkbox and click on the Browse... button.
In the Browse for Folder Window, locate the 5000_USB directory and click the OK button.
Click on the Next > button to accept the selection of the driver. NOTE: The path identified in the image will vary depending on the location of the file. At this point the 5000 software driver will load on your Windows 98SE computer.
To complete the Installation, click on the Finish button and restart your Windows 98SE computer.
When finished, the Add New Hardware Wizard will appear for a second tiMe. Repeat Steps 1-9 to install the Storage Adapter Bridge Module.
Please follow these steps for proper Installation:
Download and extract PS3100_98SE_Drivers.exe to the computer to which you connect the Personal Storage to. Maxtor suggests that you extract the file to the C:\> drive.
Browse to the C:\PS3100_98SE_Drivers folder and double-click on the 3100_98SE_Drivers file. This will launch the InstallShield Wizard.
At the WelcoMe Screen, click Next
Reveiew and accept the terms of the License AgreeMent and click Next.
At this point, the drivers will install for the Personal Storage 3100. When pRompted, click Finish.
Close all Windows and shutdown your PC
Connect the Personal Storage 3100 to your PC and reboot.
Download and extract PS3100_DIAG.EXE to the computer to which you connect the Personal Storage to. Maxtor suggests that you extract the file to the C:\> drive.
Browse to the C:\PS3100_Diag folder and double-click on the 3100_diagnostic.exe file. This will launch the Maxtor Diagnostics Tool for the Personal Storage 3100.
Click on the Short Test button to perform the diagnostic test on the drive. Test tiMe(s) may vary.
When finished click Exit. If the word, Pass is displayed, the drive is functional and no defects were found; if an error code is generated, please contact Maxtor for further assistance. |
