This update allows the Maxtor DriveLock security feature, the diagnostic utility and performance feature to be enabled for Mac OS version 9.x for Firewire.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Before you install:

Quit any other programs that are running, including virus-protection programs, because they might interfere with Installation.
We recomMend that you have Stuffit Standard Version 7.0.3 or later installed on your computer.
To install this update:

Download MacOS_9_Eng_Update.sit fRom this web site
Once you've downloaded the MacOS_9_Eng_Update.sit file, The file is normally automatically unpacked by Mac OS X after downloading. If the Installer folder doesn't mount automatically, double-click on the MacOS_9_Eng_Update.sit file to mount it.
Double-click on Install Retrospect Express.
The WelcoMe Screen appears click on the Continue button.
Read the terms of the Dantz Retrospect End-User License AgreeMent (EULA) and, if you accept these terms, click Accept.
This screen allows you to specify what type of Installation you want and where. It is automatically setup to do a Full Installation (RecomMended) into the Applications folder on your Macintosh. You can select a Custom Installation, using the Easy Install Menu, as well as change the location of the Installation using the Install Location Menu at the bottom of the screen. When you are ready, Click Install.
The Installation will begin.
A warning will appear informing you that the system will need to be restarted after the update. Click on the Restart button to proceed.

Download oneTouch_win98se_usb_driver.exe fRom this web site.
Extract oneTouch_win98se_usb_driver.exe to you computer that the Maxtor OneTouch drive is connected to. Upon extraction, the OneTouch_USB directory will be created on your system. Suggestion: extract the oneTouch_win98se_usb_driver.exe to the Desktop of the computer that you will connect the Maxtor OneTouch drive to.
Shut down your computer and connect the Maxtor OneTouch drive to an available USB interface on your computer. Once connected, apply power to the system.
After Windows 98SE starts, the Add New Hardware Wizard box will appear. Click the Next > button to continue.
On the next page, select "Search for the best driver for your device..." and click the Next > button to continue.
On the next page, check the "Specify a location:" checkbox and click on the Browse... button.
In the Browse for Folder Window, locate the OneTouch_USB directory and click the OK button.
Click on the Next > button to accept the selection of the driver. NOTE: The path identified in the image will vary depending on the location of the file. At this point the Maxtor OneTouch software driver will load on your Windows 98SE computer.
To complete the Installation, click on the Finish button and restart your Windows 98SE computer.
When finished, the Add New Hardware Wizard will appear for a second tiMe. Repeat Steps 1-9 to install the Storage Adapter Bridge Module.

Note: Failure to install the required service packs and install the Enable Big LBA patch can result in data loss when accessing the hard disk beyond 137 Gigabytes. To use the Maxtor Big Drive Enabler, download big_drive_enabler.exe fRom this Web site then double-click on the downloaded file to begin Installation.

Caution: The instructions for installing NAS (Server) Service found in the MaxNeighborhood User Guide are incorrect. The following are the correct steps needed to upgrade your MaxNeighborhood service protocols on your older, MaxAttach units.

NOTE: Your MaxAttach will not be available for use during this operation.
Extract MaxNeighborhood.exe to a location on your client system (e.g., C:\TEMP).
Launch your Browser (e.g., Internet Explorer) and Login to the MaxAttach User Interface (UI). Type the Administrator UsernaMe and Password when pRompted.
FRom the primary navigation Menu choose Maintenance, then Software Update.
Click the Next button to start the Software Update Wizard.
Browse to the NAS Service folder (E.g. C:\TEMP) and select nasservice.cab.
When the Wizard page returns, click on Verify.
If Valid you may continue, click Next.
Close the Browser Window when pRompted.

NOTE: Your MaxAttach will now re-boot. Wait until it completely re-boots (several minutes) before resuming use.

Make sure you have the naMe and password for an administrator user account on your computer. Mac OS X requires you to enter this information during Installation.
Make sure Apple Disk Copy version 10.1 or later is installed on your computer. By default, Mac OS X includes the correct version of this program.
To install this update:

Download MacOS_X_Eng_Update.dmg fRom this web site.(It is recomMended that you use Safari to download the Disk Image.)
