How to Install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows Me
The following describes how to install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows Me from the download site.
1. Connect the Compact Power Adapter to the camcorder Canon XM2.
2. Attach the USB cable supplied with the camcorder to the USB port on your computer and the USB terminal on your camcorder.
Precautions when connecting the USB cable to the USB port
(2-1) Make sure you use the Compact Power Adapter to Connect the camcorder Canon XM2 to a power source.
(2-2) Connect the camcorder Canon XM2 directly to the computer using a USB cable. The connection may not operate correctly if the camcorder is connected via a USB hub.
(2-3) Do not use other USB devices (excludes a USB mouse or keyboard) at the same time. The connection may not operate correctly.
(2-4) Never allow the computer to go into Standby (Sleep) mode while the camcorder is connected via the USB interface. If this does happen, leave the camcorder Canon XM2 connected to the computer and try to awaken the computer.
3. Slide the POWER switch to PLAY (VCR) and the TAPE/CARD switch to CARD.
Important: Once the camcorder is connected to the computer, never turn the camcorder off before DVC Storage Canon XM2 Driver installation is complete.
4. In the [Add New Hardware Wizard] dialog box, select [Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)], and then click [Next].
5. Select [Specify a location] and click [Browse..].
If a checkmark is displayed in the [Removable mediaiFloppy disk, CD-ROM, etc.,)] checkbox, click the checkbox to remove the checkmark.
6. Open the [WINME] folder in the [Browse for Folder] window acording to the procedures below.
(6-1) In the [Browse For Folder] window, find and double-click the downloaded folder.
(e.g. Double-click the [C:] drive, Desktop, and then the extracted folder.)
The letter for the drive (e.g."C:") varies depending on the computer you are using.
(6-2) Click the [WINME] folder in the foler that you opened at the step (6-1).
(6-3) Click [OK].
7. If [C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\the extracted folder name\WINME] is displayed at the [Specify a location] section in the [Add New Hardware Wizard] window, click [Next].
8. If [C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\the extracted file name\WINME\CANDV_ME.INF] is displayed at the [Location of driver] section, click [Next] to start the installation.
9. When the installation is complete, the message [Windows has finished Installing the Software for Canon XM2. you selected that your new hardware device requires.]is displayed. Click [Finish].
10. Once installation is complete, the camcorder Canon XM2 will be registered as a [Removable Disk]. Follow the procedures below to check whether [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.
(10-1) Double-click [My Computer] on the desktop.
(10-2) Click [View] in the [My Computer] window.
(10-3) Select [Explorer bar] and then [Folders] in the [View] menu to display the Explorer window.
(10-4) Check if [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.
11. If [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window, DVC Storage Canon XM2 Driver installation is complete.
If [Removable Disk] is not shown, restart your computer.
This completes the DVC Storage driver installation.
