How to Install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows 2000
The following describes how to install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows 2000 from the download site.

1. Connect the Compact Power Adapter to the camcorder Canon XM2.

2. Attach the USB cable supplied with your camcorder to the USB port on your computer and the USB terminal on your camcorder.

Precautions when connecting the USB cable to the USB port
(2-1) Make sure you use the Compact Power Adapter to Connect the camcorder Canon XM2 to a power source.
(2-2) Connect the camcorder Canon XM2 directly to the computer using a USB cable. The interface may not function correctly if the camcorder is connected via a USB hub.
(2-3) Do not use other USB devices (excludes a USB mouse or keyboard) at the same time. The connection may not operate correctly.
(2-4) Never allow the computer to go into Standby (Sleep) mode while a camcorder is connected via the USB interface. If this does happen, leave the camcorder Canon XM2 connected to the computer and try to awaken the computer.

3. Slide the POWER switch to PLAY (VCR) and the TAPE/CARD switch to CARD.
Important: Once the camcorder is connected to the computer, never turn the camcorder off before DVC Storage Canon XM2 Driver installation is complete.

4. Click [Next] in the [Found New Hardware Wizard] dialog box.

5. Select [Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)], and then click [Next].

6. Select [Specify a location], and then click [Next]. Make sure you select only [Specify a location].
If a checkmark is displayed in the [CD-ROM drive] checkbox, click the checkbox to remove the checkmark.

7. Click [Browse...] beside [Copy manufacturer's files from:].

8. In the [Locate File] window, open the [CANDV_2K.INF] file according to the procedures below.
(8-1) In the [Locate File] window, find and double-click the extracted folder.
(e.g. Double-click the [C:] drive, Desktop, the extracted folder, and then the [WIN2000] folder in succession.)
(8-2) Select the [CANDV_2K.INF] file in the [WIN2000] folder you opened at the step (8-1), and then click [Open].
The letter for the drive (e.g. "C:") varies depending on your the computer you are using.
(8-3) Click [OK].

9. If [C:\Desktop\the extracted folder name\WIN2000] is displayed under [Copy manufacturer's file from:], click [OK].

10. Click [Next] in the [Found New Hardware Wizard] dialog box. Driver installation starts.

11. Click [Finish] in the [Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard] dialog box.

12. Once the installation is complete, the camcorder Canon XM2 will be registered as a [Removable Disk]. Follow the procedure below to check if [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.
(12-1) Double-click [My Computer] on the desktop.
(12-2) Click [View] on the tool bar in the [My Computer] window.
(12-3) Select [Explorer bar] and [Folders] from the [View] menu to display the Explorer window.
(12-4) Check if [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.

13. If [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window, the DVC Storage Driver has been installed successfully.
If [Removable Disk] is not shown, restart your computer.

This completes the DVC Storage Driver installation.

How to Install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows 98

The following describes how to install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows 98 from the download site.

7. In the [Browse for Folder] window, select [WIN98] in the [Storage Driver] folder according to the procedures below.
(7-1) In the [Browse for Folder] window, find and double-click the extracted folder after downloading.
(e.g. Double-click the [C:] drive, Desktop, and then the extracted folder in succession.j
(7-2) Select and click the [WIN98] folder in the folder you opened at the step (7-1j.
(7-3) Click [OK].

8. If the [WIN98] folder, which you selected at the step (7-1) to (7-3), is displayed as [C:\Desktop\the extracted folder name\WIN98] in the [Specify a Location] section, click [Next].
The letter for the drive (e.g. "C:") varies depending on the computer you are using.

9. Click [Next] in the [Add New Hardware Wizard] dialog box to start driver installation.

10. When the installation complete message is displayed, click [Finish].

11. Once the installation is complete, the camcorder Canon XM2 will be registered as a [Removable Disk]. Follow the procedure below to check whether [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.
(11-1) Double-click [My Computer] on the desktop.
(11-2) Click [View] in the [My Computer] window.
(11-3) Select [Explorer bar] and then [Folders] from the [View] menu to display the Explorer window.
(11-4) Check if [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.

12. If [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window, DVC Storage Canon XM2 Driver installation is complete.
If [Removable Disk] is not visible, restart your computer.

This completes the DVC Storage Driver installation.

How to Install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows Me
The following describes how to install the DVC Storage Driver on Windows Me from the download site.

If a checkmark is displayed in the [Removable mediaiFloppy disk, CD-ROM, etc.,)] checkbox, click the checkbox to remove the checkmark.

6. Open the [WINME] folder in the [Browse for Folder] window acording to the procedures below.
(6-1) In the [Browse For Folder] window, find and double-click the downloaded folder.
(e.g. Double-click the [C:] drive, Desktop, and then the extracted folder.)
The letter for the drive (e.g."C:") varies depending on the computer you are using.
(6-2) Click the [WINME] folder in the foler that you opened at the step (6-1).
(6-3) Click [OK].

7. If [C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\the extracted folder name\WINME] is displayed at the [Specify a location] section in the [Add New Hardware Wizard] window, click [Next].

8. If [C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\the extracted file name\WINME\CANDV_ME.INF] is displayed at the [Location of driver] section, click [Next] to start the installation.

9. When the installation is complete, the message [Windows has finished Installing the Software for Canon XM2. you selected that your new hardware device requires.]is displayed. Click [Finish].

10. Once installation is complete, the camcorder Canon XM2 will be registered as a [Removable Disk]. Follow the procedures below to check whether [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.
(10-1) Double-click [My Computer] on the desktop.
(10-2) Click [View] in the [My Computer] window.
(10-3) Select [Explorer bar] and then [Folders] in the [View] menu to display the Explorer window.
(10-4) Check if [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.

11. If [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window, DVC Storage Canon XM2 Driver installation is complete.

If [Removable Disk] is not shown, restart your computer.

This completes the DVC Storage driver installation.

6. In the [Browse For Folder] dialog box, select [WINXP] according to the
procedures below.
(6-1) In the [Browse For Folder] dialog box, find and double-click the
extracted folder.
(e.g. Click the [C:] drive, Desktop, and then the extracted folder
in succession.)
The letter for the drive (e.g. "C:" varies depending on the computer
you are using.)
(6-2) Click the [WINXP] folder.
(6-3) Click [OK].

7. If [C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\the extracted folder name\WINXP] displays at the
[Include the location in search] section in the [Found New Hardware Wizard]
dialog box, click [Next].
The driver installation starts automatically.

8. Click [Finish] in the [Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard] dialog
box.

9. Once the installation is complete, the camcorder Canon XM2 will be registered as a
[Removable Disk]. Follow the procedures below to check if [Removable Disk]
is shown in the Explorer window.
(9-1) Select [My Computer] from the [Start] menu.
(9-2) Click [View] on the tool bar in the [My Computer] window.
(9-3) Select [Explorer bar] and [Folders] from the [View] menu to display
the Explorer window.
(9-4) Check if [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window.

10. If [Removable Disk] is shown in the Explorer window, the DVC Storage
Driver has been installed successfully.
If [Removable Disk] is not shown, restart your computer.

This completes the DVC Storage Driver installation.
